Society+ Anne Lace Skirt

Good morning! I wanted to share a quick holiday inspiration post featuring my white Society+ Anne Lace Skirt. I have been wearing my black skirt so much lately but haven’t been pulling the white lace out. I styled this look with a green J.Jill sweater and a red scarf, for a christmas themed look.

Can you believe that we are just two weeks away from Christmas! I have been working away on finishing up my Christmas list and I think I am almost finished! I just need something each of my FOUR nieces can wear and then my list will be done. THANK GOODNESS!

Sharing how to style your white Society+ Anne Lace Skirt for the Holiday season! Also sharing a some outfit and over the knee boot links!

Sharing how to style your white Society+ Anne Lace Skirt for the Holiday season! Also sharing a some outfit and over the knee boot links!

I can’t be the only girl out there that hates dealing with tights, can I? I would much rather put on a sassy pair of boots and be free than wear tights. I find myself reaching for OTK boots more and more this season, they are just so simple and a great pair of boots really can add to your look!

A texturized scarf is a great way to add interest to your look, I also love cozying up with a scarf when I am out to eat, or hanging at home. Green, red and white are so festive this time of year one of the reasons this look works so well is the textures and the deeper hue of the red and green. I love dressing for the holidays but want to avoid looking like Cindy Lou Who LOL, going for the colors of the season in deeper hues is a great way to achieve that.

Chic Soul Gift Guide

This post is sponsored by Chic Soul, and features my Chic Soul Gift Guide

Today on the blog I am sharing a gift guide for the clothes loving curvy babe. I set up my picks for the different curvy babes in your life from the girl that loves all things casual, to the beauty that lives for floral and ruffles and pink, to that glamazon that is rarely caught without leopard somewhere on her body.

I was referred to Chic Soul from my dear blogger bestie Liz, and I found myself gravitating to their site to peruse all the options. I am always on the hunt for unique pieces to mix into my wardrobe, and during the holidays you can never have too many cute outfits. When I sat down to map out this post, I knew I wanted to share some options for anyone shopping FOR a curvy babe. There are SO many options at Chic Soul, its easy to get lost, so I took some of the work out of it for you. I have my top three picks for three different types of tastes.

Lets get started.

The Glamour Girl.

Hi my name is Anne, and I am a self admitted glamour girl. I freaking love me some leopard, and black dresses make my life complete. I am known to carry expensive handbags, and I love big jewelry. Like a lot. This category was really really easy for me to put together, because DUH its my favorite. I included some leopard, dark florals, and a black sweater with a unique sleeve detail.

The Girly Girl.

You know that girl in your life that lives in any variation of pink, sees lace as a neutral, and lives for pretty florals. My top picks for the girly girl in your life are a floral top with ruffled sleeves, a soft mocha cardigan with a ruffled hemline and a gorgeous pink top with black lace inset.

The Casual Cutie.

Raise yo hand if you live life in jeans and a tee. My picks for this girl, range from a top that has a little extra ruffle, to an Aztec sweater that I pretty much need. I styled my casual look with leopard, and some OTK boots to add some interest.

Avenue Outerwear

This post is sponsored by Avenue and features Avenue Outerwear, for other posts on Avenue go HERE and HERE.

This week on the blog I am sharing an edgy outerwear look with Avenue and sharing my tips on how to complete your look with a coat or jacket! As the weather dips into cooler temps, its impossible to leave the house without something to keep warm. The days of one coat to last a whole season are gone, the plus size babe has so many options for keeping warm and fashionable. I teamed up with Avenue to bring you my take on a cold weather look, and my tips on creating a stylish outfit from boots to coat!

Lets get started!

Here are my steps to coordinating a complete look!

Step one – Have an arsenal of coats and jackets that can mix and match with what is in your closet. I usually keep coats for 3 or more seasons, so I like to have classic pieces that never go out of style. Like a classic Camel coat, and a black cape. Then I will add in trendier pieces that are great for casual outfits, and don’t break the bank.

Step two – Where are you going? Are you headed to the opera? Or out for an afternoon of shopping? This will determine your outfit obviously LOL, but also help you narrow down what outerwear to grab. If you are headed out for an afternoon at the mall, you don’t need the warmest coat in your closet.

Step three – Be mindful, when you are putting together your look for the day don’t just think about what shirt and pant you will be wearing, factor in what coats and jackets are currently in your closet too! I opted to pair this green blouse with my leggings and OTK boots BECAUSE I knew I wanted to wear my camo jacket!

In today's post I am sharing how to create a complete look in colder climates with Avenue outerwear, that coordinates with what you have on!

I built this look around the camouflage coat and the velvet over the knee boots. I love this look for an afternoon of shopping on main street where you will be wearing your coat and boots the whole time. I kept my top and bottoms simple with the Avenue wide waist leggings and a green peasant blouse. I tend to lean towards all black, wanting to get out of the box a bit I opted for this green blouse instead. Which I actually love, the green compliments the camouflage well and adds more depth to the look.

This is  my second pair of over the knee boots from Avenue, and I am so pleased to report that they STAY UP!! No slipping down my calf and no constant pulling up required. To see the other pair of OTK boots from Avenue go HERE!

This particular coat comes in two colors(Camo and Black) and falls into the “Anorak” category on the avenue.com site. Anorak coats have become increasingly popular each year, and they are classified as a hip length coat with a hood. This coat is “faux” sherpa lined and is quite warm! I found it to be true to size( I am wearing a 14/16) and plan on styling it with casual looks like this one, and with my usual jeans and booties.

Gift Exchange Gift Guide

This post contains affiliate links through Amazon

Today on the blog I am sharing a gift exchange gift guide that I personally SEARCHED THE INTERNET looking for(what I mean is, I tried to find this on other bloggers sites/amazon/retail stores etc…and couldnt)! This particular guide is not usually what I share on Curls and Contours BUT during the holidays its needed, for those days when you just need to jump on Amazon and get something that will wow the crowd.

Here is the deal. Each year my large but very close family ends up having a gift exchange, the usual dollar amount to be spent is 25 bucks. AND each year I struggle SOOOOOO hard with what to bring to the exchange, I don’t want to do what all the guys usually do(booze, lottery tickets and gift cards) but I also want to bring something that will be fun and exciting to the person opening it. Each item in this gift guide is something that would be fun to open, but on the flip side also fun to take home if you don’t like anything else in the exchange.

Each item is….

  • 25-30 dollars
  • Appeals to different genders and tastes
  • Something I would be happy to take home

In this post I am sharing eight different gift ideas that make great gift exchange items during the holidays. All items are linked through Amazon!

  1. For the EntertainerCharcuterie Board with bowls for dipping- These have become so popular for entertaining and displaying different cheese and meat options. This is perfect for the cheese snob in the group OR the entertainer!
  2. For the TrendsetterMarble Phone Case – All the trendy kids are doing it! I picked up a marble theme phone case this summer and I get comments on it ALL THE TIME! Wow the tech trendy person in the gift exchange with this phone case!
  3. For the FoodieLodge Cast Iron Grill Pan – Who is the foodie in your group? Cast iron is a classic piece to have in your kitchen AND they have reemerged as a trendy kitchen item to have on hand.
  4. For the Tech SavvyAmazon Echo Dot – Have you seen the commercials? The Echo is “Alexa” this fun little piece of technology will be HOT in the gift exchange, you link this little device up to your amazon account and wifi and you can access music, make lists, order things. The smallest of the “Echo” series this little guy will be a HIT at any exchange!
  5. For the Home BodyJonathon Adler Bourbon Candle – Rose Gold is sooo in right now, I love that this candle has a modern look and scent. When I go to Home Goods, all the scents have some sort of whiskey name these days.
  6. For the NaturalistEssential Oil Diffuser – I am not a big fan of essential oils as “remedies”(only because I don’t really know what I am doing LOL) but I loveeeee them in a diffuser, they provide a clean safe way to add scent to a home.
  7. For the Home Decor LoverTabletop modern vase – These little vases are so cute and modern, I love that you can use them as small planter’s or you use them to hold things(pens, makeup brushes etc…)
  8. For the OutdoorsmenYeti 20oz cup – We own a couple of these cups and I have gifted the larger sized ones as Christmas gifts in the past! My husband loves to take these out ice fishing in the winter, and I love them during the summer months to keep beverages cold all day!

I hope this little guide helps you find some inspiration for any upcoming Christmas exchanges you may have on your calendar!

Happy Holidays!! Today on the blog I am sharing a Kiyonna formal gown. When I picked out the Screen Siren Gown to review this month I purposefully chose a “Holiday” themed color. Every holiday season formal events pop up in our lives, and its good to have an arsenal of gowns to pull out and wear. Also if you are doing a holiday themed engagement photoshoot or holiday family photos(glam factor 1,000) this gown would be perfect! Not going to lie here girls, I was kind of have a Rose from Titanic moment with this dress, I felt sooooooo glam!

About the Siren Lace Gown

This gown is a pull on style that comes in a variety of colors, I chose the red for obvious christmas reasons, but it also comes in Navy, Black, and Grey. The dress is fully lined with the exception of the arms, and features a plunging neckline. I found this gown to be a great weight, this helped it to lay really nicely across my body. Because of the fitted nature of this dress I opted to size up, and it was a perfect fit. Both the lining and the outer layer are a Spandex/Rayon blend so this piece has quite a bit of stretch, which is so nice because you can actually move in it. Whether you are dancing or sitting down for a formal meal this gown is in for the long haul!

In this post I share a Kiyonna Formal gown, the Screen Siren gown just in time for Holiday formal events and Christmas pictures!

How to Style –

As most of you know I am a minimalist when it comes to accessories. I prefer to keep a few super quality handbags that will go with everything and last many years then to have a closet full of bags. I also carry this belief over to shoes and jewelry. I like to keep a stock of statement earrings that are super versatile, that way I can just grab and go. I love THESE for this dress!

My advice for styling this Kiyonna formal gown, keep it simple and classic, the neckline is so interesting with the scalloped lace that you don’t need a necklace. I skipped bracelets because I hate it when bracelets catch on lace and snag my gown (#notworthit).

I paired this dress with my trusty and well worn strap block heeled sandals that I wear ALL THE TIME. Once I have a pair of heels broke in its so hard to get away from them, purely based of the fact that they won’t kill your feet! If you live in a colder climate(like me) I suggest THESE to go with the Screen Siren gown.

Maggy London

This post is sponsored by Maggy London

Today on the blog I am sharing some newwwwnesssss. This newness is two fold, I am bringing you a new brand, and with that brand I am sharing a brand new dress! Maggy London contacted me a couple months back and asked if I would be interested in sharing a piece from their curve collection with my readers and followers, it was a definite yes! I have stalked Maggy pieces for special events in the past, I love the classic styling and quality that goes into each garment.

Maggy London specializes in creating dresses that offer a polished style and impeccable craftsmanship. Having not worn a Maggy London dress before I wasn’t sure what to expect, and I am sooooo impressed with this dress. The craftsmanship is so evident, from the lining(yes its completely lined) to the perfect statement sleeves. If you have been following me for awhile then you know I have a thing for ruffle sleeves, and I will tell you that not all ruffles are created equal. Its all about the type of fabric and how the ruffle is attached to the garment. AND now I have seen the light, and been completely spoiled by Maggy London. LOL.

Lets talk styling.

This dress is called the “Stevie Curve Midi” and is considered a sheath style, the fabric is a crepe polyester blend and lays really nicely over the body. This piece is fully lined and features an invisible zipper that runs up the back. I styled this dress with minimal accessories, and my go to block heeled sandals. Another great shoe pairing would be a classic nude pump(like these). This dress is great for a party or a wedding guest look, the statement sleeves add drama and interest so keeping your heels low key is a must.

I have become a jewelry minimalist over the years, most days I just wear my wedding rings, but when I am in the mood to add something its almost always a statement earring. I paired some classic red tassel earrings for a pop of color to match my red lip. In the warmer months I could easily pair orange or yellow accessories with this dress for a warmer weather look. With the holidays upon us I really love the red.

This dress has a classic ease of wear look to it, its effortlessly chic, so styling it was a breeze. Keep it simple, and classic for outfit success.

In this post I am sharing a dress from the Maggy London curve line "London Times Curve". Maggy London is a brand that specializes in femininity.

Small Business Saturday with HIPS Resale Boutique

This post is sponsored by HIPS Resale Boutique, this is my second post about HIPS go HERE for my first post.

Thanksgiving week is upon us, and you know what that means!! Black Friday AND Small Business Saturday are this week. Each year I try and get out to shop on Friday or Saturday, but the past couple of years I have started my holiday shopping on small business Saturday. I love going out to small businesses not only to support them but also to enjoy specials and events that they might have going on. In todays post I am collaborating with HIPS Resale boutique to share some affordable holiday outfit inspo AND hit you with the top 3 reasons I prefer to shop local.

Lets get started.

LOOK ONE– Lets call this first look “Low Key Holiday Glam,” Do you have a holiday office party to attend? Maybe this event is happening RIGHT after work, or even in the middle of the day? If so then this look is for you! I found this LB office appropriate sweater at HIPS to pair perfectly with this plaid pleated midi skirt, instead of grabbing black pumps or booties I decided to amp up the christmas factor with some red suede pumps. I love the pops of color in this look, and the ease of wear, women in general feel so much pressure during the holidays to have everything perfectly prepared and in place. That includes their appearance as well, with this look you are blending pieces that all work with other outfits(outside of the holidays) to create a low key glam holiday outfit.

HIPS Resale Boutique, sharing some affordable holiday fashion inspiration from HIPS a plus size fashion destination in Detroit MI.

Small Business Saturday isn’t just for American Express users anymore, this day of shopping has become for everyone! I love to shop on the last Saturday in November because I love supporting other entrepreneurs, especially other female entrepreneurs. In the fashion industry so many small boutiques are owned by women, I love being able to support other chicks with a passion. I will happily drive out of my way to stop at a shop that has exactly what I am looking for, on Small Business Saturday I get the chance to support those shops during the holiday season! HIPS is great for me as a curvy babe, I sell a lot of my clothing through HIPS AND I find the most unique pieces there. Detroit babes, if you ever see a piece on my blog that you love, here is a little secret its most likely at HIPS, or will be in the next month!

HIPS Resale Boutique, sharing some affordable holiday fashion inspiration from HIPS a plus size fashion destination in Detroit MI.

LOOK TWO – If my first holiday look from HIPS was low key, then this look definitely falls into the “Statement” category! HIPS has some amazing City Chic pieces at both stores right now, while I was shopping on my last trip in I immediately pulled this gem off the rack. I love me some sequins, and the rocker glam is soo there with black sequins. In my first post about HIPS(HERE) I shared that its so important to look at all sizes when shopping resale, and I took my own advice with this one. I am typically a size small in City Chic pieces, and this dress was only available in a L. Instead of giving up on it I grabbed a belt, and rolled up the sleeves for a casual-esque vibe. I love wearing sequins during the holidays, its my excuse to be extra. LOL. I paired this dress with my OTK boots(go HERE for more info on them) and my favorite red earrings. I love how chic and sparkly this look is, perfect for NYE or a holiday concert!

HIPS Resale Boutique, sharing some affordable holiday fashion inspiration from HIPS a plus size fashion destination in Detroit MI.

When I was growing up my mother always took me to “Holday Open House” events at local boutiques and shops, these special events always always had a refreshment table, store specials and the owner on hand to chat with customers. I loved the special feel and welcoming spirit of this type of event. On Small Business Saturday literally ALL boutiques will be having something like this. As a customer you can pop in, grab a donut and a mimosa and do some shopping for yourself OR your loved ones. Small businesses will have their best and brightest sales associates on hand to help you, they have been preparing for the holidays since July, and this coming Saturday is the kickoff!

HIPS Resale Boutique, sharing some affordable holiday fashion inspiration from HIPS a plus size fashion destination in Detroit MI.

LOOK THREE – The last look I am sharing from HIPS is a casual shopping or hanging at home look. I love how big and cozy this red sweater is, I paired it with some jeans and OTK boots for a trend forward look, but have since worn it with leggings and my slippers at home. When it gets cold I crave cozy fabrics to cuddle up in, and this look fits the bill perfectly, cozy, easy and chic. I am all about balance when it comes to dressing, and this type of look is no exception. When you are going with an oversized top, wear fitted bottoms to balance the look. If you pair oversized with oversized then your look can end up drowning you in fabric and look sloppy.

Are you shopping for a person in your life if specific tastes or needs? If the answer is yes, then Small Business Saturday is a great way to shop for and really wow that hard to buy for person in your life. HIPS specializes in plus size clothing at affordable prices, they have staff that knows their stuff and can help you shop for that curvy babe in your life. OR you can grab a gift card and some jewelry and be happy knowing that you will be giving the gift of choice to your loved one. I myself have been told that I am a person that is really hard to shop for, shopping with a small business will connect you with other people with a similar passion, thus upping your chances of getting the right gift. AND added bonus, you can share your new found small business with the person you are buying for! The more the merrier right!

Plus Size Outfit Roundup

Just a quick post today sharing a plus size outfit roundup, photos that have made it to social media but not linked up on the blog. Can you believe Thanksgiving is NEXT WEEK! How has this month gone by so quickly!

Today for my Thankful posts I wanted to share how thankful I am for my support system. The people in my life that are there to celebrate my successes and talk through my failures. Humans are social creatures and we all need a “tribe” as I continue to grow up and out my tribe has changed and grown smaller, but there are people there for me that have been there for years. I know that not everyone has a close relationship with their mother, and a cousin that is like a sister, but its so important to find people in your life that you can celebrate and be vulnerable with. I am so thankful to have a tribe that supports and pushes me to grow. There is family in my tribe, and friends from High School, the man-child I married, and blogging has brought me a work friend that I desperately needed. I challenge you to text the people in your support system today and thank them for always being there for you.

Ok the sappy part of the post has now ended. Lets get to the links. 🙂

Sequin Jacket with Liz Louize

This post is part of a monthly series with Liz Louize, for more about this boutique go HERE, HERE and HERE

This week on the blog I am teaming up with Liz Louize to share how a trendy statement piece can dress up items you already own! I love being able to add things to my closet that will easily mix and match with my “old stuff” lol. To me this is just practical dressing and an integral part of my fashion personality. I scooped up this velvet and sequin bomber jacket the last time I was in Liz Louize, I knew it would be perfect for the holidays and would mix and match well with other pieces in my closet. The silhouette of this piece lends a very casual vibe, but the fabric and sequin sleeve kick things up a notch. Versatile pieces like this are great to have in your closet, and in my opinion if you can shop them from a boutique with a curated inventory you will be getting the most bang for your buck.

Obviously, if you have been following me for awhile then you KNOWWWW I love black dresses so my first thought was to style this jacket with a black dress. I pulled this one out of my closet and bada bing I had myself a brand new outfit. Liz Louize has quickly become my go to place for statement piece shopping, and luckily for me the store is in the area BUT if you aren’t local they have an online store TOO!

Jacket

This jacket falls into the bomber category, it features black sequins on the arms and a quilted velvet across the front and back. I found that this piece fit true to size, I am wearing a 1. I will be styling this jacket again for a date night out, and I plan on pairing it with distressed denim and a black t-shirt for a casual look.

Style tip- Its easy to work in a flashy sequin piece when you go matchy matchy. If you have a sequin piece in mind that you like to style but aren’t sure about making a “statement” try pairing it with something that is the same color! I love black so I am always pairing statement pieces with dark shades, but this tip works great for any color!

Liz Louize has so many new arrivals AND you can shop them now online! If you are in need of a holiday look, or even a gift for the curvy babe in your life. You need to check out this store! I follow them on Facebook for up to date info on specials and discounts! I have found that keeping up with my favorite boutiques on social media is a great way to keep an eye on their inventory and know about current sales. You can check out the Liz Louize Facebook HERE.
