Bombshell Bridal is a boutique located in St. Clair Shores Michigan that specializes and embraces plus size women, whether they are brides or bridesmaids. Owners Amy and Amanda founded Bombshell with the mission of helping curvy babes have an amazing dress shopping experience. I had the opportunity to help a curvy blogger friend find her perfect dress a few weeks ago, and it really inspired me to share Bombshell and share my thoughts on letting your true style shine through on your wedding day.
If you have been here before then you already know about my blogger bestie Liz from withwonderandwhimsy.com but the internet works in strange and mysterious ways bringing cool people together. Abby from pennydarlingtheblog.com is a getting married, and I had the pleasure of helping her find her dream dress! Liz, Abbys mom, and I were her entourage at Bombshell we searched the store high and low for the perfect dress(and we were successful btw). I am linking Bombshell’s website so you can check it out and Abby and Liz blogs BUT now I would like to talk about something that is so important for anyone getting married. The subject is letting your style shine through on your wedding day!
Bombshell literally has hundreds of gowns for every type of bride, and when you get into the boutique your stylist will help you figure out your bridal style. NOW THIS IS IMPORTANT, and I can say that because I have been married for many moons. IT IS SO IMPORTANT TO STAY TRUE TO YOUR PERSONAL STYLE ON YOUR WEDDING DAY!
I say this because you will look back on your day and remember the “glow” of the day, meaning the overall feeling your wedding left you with. And girl if you are super casual and live in flats and sneakers but opt for 4 inch heels on your day, you will remember being in the 7th circle of shoe hell. LOL. Being a plus size babe myself I know that it is hard to have a “style” so often plus size women style is whatever fits, and let me tell you if you go with that mindset on your wedding day you will be sorry(ask me how I know). Before you go shopping for wedding dresses you need to take a hard look at your closet, and ask yourself THIS ONE QUESTION!
How are you dressed when you feel your best?
And let me tell you whatever your answer to this question is ITS NOT WRONG. If you feel your best in a form fitting body con thats amazing, if you love a kitschy skirt and top thats amazing too! Your wedding dress should be a reflexion of the best parts of you(mind, body and soul), with the opportunity to shop in a bridal boutique that carries your size you should really lean into your own personal style. Taking a look at your closet, and the clothes that bring you joy before you go shopping for your wedding dress will really help you narrow down your bridal style and reflect who you are on your day!
Years ago when I was shopping for my bridal gown I dieted so that I could even fit into the largest size gowns that a straight size bridal salon carried in store(Bombshell didn’t exist yet). I was so overwhelmed by the fact that I got a gown to fit my body I didn’t truly pick a dress based on my tastes. I picked a gown that fit my body. I don’t ever want any curvy babe to pick a dress to hide her body, or feel that she needs to “change” her body just to fit into a gown. I would even go as far to say that I didn’t have a “style” I had that classic fat girl trying to be thin mindset. As the years have gone by and my style as a curvy babe has emerged I wish that I could go back and change that time(the dress not the man).
What was/is your bridal style?
