Hi from the road! The last couple of days I have been touring around the Monterey Bay area. I was in town for the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, and was able to tour around town and the track. Unbelievable cars, and scenery made for a fun and interesting weekend. Now, you may be thinking what is this curvy girl doing at the races? Well, I will tell you. My family is in the race car business, my parents travel around the world racing cars and every year they make the trip to Monterey and EVERY YEAR I wish I could go. BUT this year, I did get to go and it was a blast.
The central California coast is BEAUTIFUL and a very mild temperature. Its cool at night, and warm during the day. So what do you wear in this type of weather? Layers. At the track you are walking a lot, so practical shoes are a must. I went with my favorite New Balance sneaks, that I got on Amazon for a fantastic deal!
Staying true to my comfortable and practical sense of style I reached for a button up chambray shirt and some leggings. I prefer my hair down and loose as general rule, and of course my new sunglasses had to be out for the world to see. The track is a very casual atmosphere, so I fit right in with the crowd.
This year the Ford Shelby Mustang was honored, what a beautiful piece of machinery. It was a blast seeing all the different types of cars, some dating back to the pre-war era. I personally love the races themselves. The competition and the speed is very exciting! This track is particularly beautiful because it is tucked into the mountains.
Blondes really do have more fun! Look for more posts on my fantastic Monterey experience soon!
Los Angeles is the first stop on my big summer adventure. What a fantastic couple of days running all over LA with my bestie, she took off after high school and moved to LA 8 years ago. She has become an International model and has been seen on the big and small screen. With our love of fashion, horses, and histories in common we have always stayed connected. We make a point to see each other (face to face) once each year, whether that is on a vacation, her visiting the mitten, or me coming to Hollywood. Our goal each year is to have some time together. We have been lucky this year, with a fishing trip to the Keys and now my trip to LA.
Our theme this trip was fashion, specifically seeing it all from high end couture(Rodeo Drive), all the way to the thrift stores on the cool kids end of town(Fairfax) and everything in between(Melrose). I had some blogger goals for this trip as well, I wanted to find the infamous pink blogger wall, and go thrifting. I achieved both of those goals, yay me!
LA has super dry heat, not like Michigan AT ALL, it can be 80 degrees and you would think it was 70 because there is no humidity here. I packed my trusty maxi dresses, because I knew I would be warm, and I knew I wanted to be comfortable and on trend for summer. You know that I am all about dressing for comfort and trend, my favorite Maxi dress was the perfect companion for the adventures of the day. NOW, you know that I preach about using and reusing your favorite fashion pieces, so don’t get all pissy pants because I have already posted about this fabulous Loft dress. I KNOW that a blog post exists out there of me in this dress, but listen this dress has never seen these walls or this state before. AND my accessories are different so THERE!
Isn’t this wall mural FANTASTIC! This beauty is on Fairfax on the side of a Kosher Bakery building. I noticed it as we were walking to a fantastic little thrift shop.
This beauty was directly across the parking lot from the mouse mural, and I just loved the stark white with the print! The wall is also on Fairfax.
I mean, fashion blogger bucket list item can be checked off. The infamous pink blogger wall, so pink and so fantastic in every way. So we had fun with the wall for awhile. This loft dress is just loving this wall.
After we left the wall, we decided to hike down to the end of Melrose and window shop our way back to the car. WELL THEN we “stumbled” across the Vivienne Westwood Flagship store.
AND THEN…BAAM this happens. PINK Vivienne Westwood sunnies
Statement sunnies from Vivienne Westwood called to me and I answered. So freaking beautiful and fun. This perfect little accessory adds some more sass to my regular look. I am in love.
A good pair of Sunnies can last you years, and these babies will be coveted and adored from now until forever. I am a BIG believer in investing in quality pieces that you will use everyday. Examples include- Sunnies (obviously), bags, makeup, hair tools, bras.
I am already dreaming of cool Fall afternoons, and bonfires at night! Fall is my favorite season, I love riding in the Fall, I got married in the Fall and fashion does not disappoint in the Autumn! I have already started my Fall wish list, and I can’t wait to start shopping and working on getting these great pieces to mix in with my already kick ass wardrobe from years past!
My style takes a slight turn in the cooler months, I lean harder on structured fabrics, and layers. In the summer, I am flowy one layer girl. I love boho styles and I am ALL about fabrics that don’t cling. Autumn weather brings out the “Preppy” side of my fashion personality. I am big on vests, and structured shirts. I ALWAYS have a scarf on, and I love riding boots and comfy wedge booties.
2. J Crew Gingham Shirt- The classic Gingham shirt, I am big flannel lover but I have never tried Gingham, that is changing this year.
3. J Crew Vest– The Pinterest dream vest, I have many quality vests but I have ALWAYS wanted one of these. This year, I plan on finally purchasing one and wearing the heck out of it!
4. Black Watch– I am looking to expand my watch collection this Fall, and get out of my Michael Kors box. I will be shopping for a new Watch brand to purchase from this fall!
5. Leopard Clutch– Ok for realsies I have been pining away for a leopard clutch for quite some time. With the changing of the seasons, I am going TO FIND MY CLUTCH! Its going to happen.
6. Brown Riding Boots WIDE CALF– I wear the cootie out of my riding boots in the Fall, and every year I go on the hunt to replace a pair that are just a little to rough to make it through another season. This year I need a new pair of brown boots.
7. Chance by Chanel– I fail at perfume, just this spring I fell in love with a Calvin Klein perfume and now I am wanting to expand my library of scents.
8. Stretchy Skinnies– Who doesn’t need more skinnies that are comfy and riding boot ready? Seriously.
9. Patagonia Long Sleeve- The ultimate outdoor comfy shirt, that also happens to be a brand that is on trend in a big way right now! S.N. I don’t give a shit that its a mens shirt. Whatev!
I know I have preached on C&C before about how curvy girls need a fashion uniform, and my fall style rings home with my philosophy on knowing what works for your body and shopping for pieces that will intermix with what you already have.
Are you ready for Pumpkin Spice Lattes, Witches Brew wine, and Haunted Houses yet?
One of the most figure flattering styles to try this summer is the A-line skirt. Universally flattering the A-line skirt is fitted at the hips and gradually opens down to the hem, this type of skirt is great for defining a waist and then forgiving your hip and thigh area. What I love about this type of skirt, is how easy and comfortable they are. You feel instantly chic, and this skirt keeps you covered and cool for whatever you might be up to.
I paired this particular A-Line skirt with a chambray(because I am obsessed) that I cinched to give even more waist definition. I added a statement necklace for some sparkle! Comfy wedges give me some height and dress up the whole look. I have also worn this skirt with a black top, and sandals, I just love how easy it is to wear.
If you don’t have one in your closet, consider it. They can be found at really any price point, and in many different stores. The skirt that I am wearing is from Loft. But I will be sharing some of my favorites with you.
Finally home from a fun week in middle Tennessee, we(my Mom, Grandmother and myself)were able to see some beautiful horses, eat great food, and explore the city of Murfreesboro TN. We came to this city to show horses and little did we know there was a National park sitting right under our noses.
I feel like we should get some horsey stuff out of the way before we dig into this great learning experience.
My Mom/Bestie and I have two Tennessee Walking Horses that we show across the Midwest and South. We love our two horses and we love to train and compete together. Each year we travel to middle Tennessee to a big championship horse show for a week. We ride everyday, compete against amazing horses and just in general have what is known as a “Showcation” (horse show vacation).
Callie and I before a class, I FREAKING LOVE my new show top!!!
This year we switched it up a bit and decided to try and explore a little more, instead of being so focused on our horses that we don’t get to experience the area.
With this new adventurous spirit in mind, I pushed to go driving around and see some sights. That is when we stumbled across this rich piece of American history I didn’t even know existed where we were showing horses.
This National Battlefield memorializes the battle that took place during the American Civil war on December 31, 1862. What an unbelievable place.
The National Parks service has turned this historic piece of land into a park for people to enjoy, there were miles of beautiful groomed trails to enjoy
Lets talk what I wore on this little adventure.
When it is HOT AS HELL out and I know I am going to be hiking around and exploring, I go for clothing that is going to keep me cool, be functional, and be cute.
Temperature Factor, skort and a t-shirt and sandals, I am good to go!
Functionality is the back bone of this look, my chacos are keeping me cool and the thick sole is protecting my feet. A cross body bag makes it so that I am hands free, AND added bonus this is a bag that is cloth so if it does get dirty I can just wash it. My skort is accommodating to my bigger hips, but has added coverage and support with the shorts that are hidden underneath. Just a basic t-shirt that I am not going to baby rounds out this look nicely. Of course I am going to have my favorite sunnies and a big ol watch for some added sass.
Cute factor- My t-shirt is fitted but not tight so that it is breathable but still figure flattering, and my it says “Damn it feels good to be a Michigangster.” Its fun, it represents me well and the coloring is very flattering for my skin tone. Ray-Bans are always on trend, and my Vera bag is a standout as a trendy piece as well.
WOW has C&C gone dark the last couple of days, I am currently blogging remotely from The Miller Collesium in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Where my Mother and I are competing at the WHOA International Championships with our two horses. I have been trying to keep my Instagram up to date, but blogging from the road is challenging. Remember still a newbie!
In terms of style this week, its a common thing for me to be in skinnies, my Dublin’s and a t-shirt (in fact that is what I am wearing right now as I type this post). We have been able to leave the horse show to go exploring and that has been a total treat. I was able to find a great piece of horsey artwork for my blogger room(I am keeping that one a secret until the big reveal), and get a couple new things for Callie(you know the horse).
Ladies, the weather in the South is HOT AS HELL! OMG I have been melting, I suspected this would be the case so I packed only my super light summer favorites. I have pulled my favorite summer Maxi from Loft out twice and worn it.
We have been eating like Queens this week, and our favorite little cafe was open with home made goodies for lunch. Millers Grocery is an absolute treat!
Seriously this little cafe was so fun, and quaint. I had sweet tea and chicken salad, with peach cobbler for dessert.
This porch was so adorable. The bright colors and lush grass made it a amateur photographers dream(thats me).
The final installment of my “Pretty Little Dress” series is finally here! If you haven’t checked out parts 1 and 2. Do it now so we are all on the same page. 🙂
So I knew going into styling this dress for the 3rd time I was going to have to seriously mix it up. So I decided to do my hair up, which I NEVER EVER DO! I will tell you why, I love my hair, its fun and big, and I just love it down all the time. But I really wanted to push myself to mix it up and try something new with this look, so hair up happened.
Lets lead with where I wore the dress. To a beautiful rustic chic wedding in a barn, that was seriously to die for. Check it out.
So gorgeous! The Ellis Barn in Oakland County is to die for! The ceremony was in the lower part of the barn and the reception was help upstairs!
I mean, get out of town this wedding was so beautiful! I was so inspired by everything!
Lets talk how I styled the dress!
Wedding in a barn with no AC means that my hair up plan was a GOOD idea, I used a stretchy headband and wrapped my hair around it and then pinned everything in place with 100 pins, and a pound of hairspray! haha. Not kidding. I went with statement earrings, and my new favorite necklace and a pair of HOTT wedges!
Ok, so for some reason this week I decided that I NEEDED things in my life. I don’t know what came over me but I just had to have some more stuff surrounding me. Including the sewing form that I purchased for 40 bucks! In all honesty I really did NEED PJs for my upcoming travels. So ACTUALLY I really did need to hit up 3 different TJ Maxx and Marshalls in the last 2 days….haha I know I am pathetic, whatever haters.
So lets talk about my haul and my weird strategy (that didn’t work), and what I really did end up bringing home with me on my bargain binge shopping.
STORE ONE – MARSHALLS
I knew going into the store that I really did need some REAL PJs and a packable robe (not random old tanks and 10 year old pj shorts) so my plan was to go in tunnel vision style and head straight towards the PJ section. This plan worked for a hot ten seconds and then I saw the bags, now this is where my shopping ADD kicks in and I remember that I actually have been thinking about a new bag, and I found my feet carrying me straight over to the purses, then the hats (because obviously), then the shoes….AND then I eventually made it over to the “Intimates” (I know, I know) section of the store. I was able to score a Pajama dress (that looks like Lily Pulitzer) and some cute pj pants and a top to co-ordinate. What I really did need was a legit robe that I can put on and have coffee in and chill with whoever I may be with over the next month. I then made a cruise by the tops and OF COURSE they had flannels out, and as you will learn if you follow C&C I freaking love flannels, like a lot. Seriously. AND they had these adorable striped tops that are a boxy cut that I died over. So fast forward, I am now leaving the store with 1 flannel, 2 striped tops (one for me one for my bestie because I am that kind of bitch), pajama bottoms, pajama top, Lily P. Pajama dress, and NO ROBE.
So of course I have to drive by my besties salon on my way home(to drop off her shirt), which is conveniently located next to one of the best TJ Maxx stores in the area. So I HAVE to stop at this other TJ Maxx, like I pulled in and parked before I knew what was happening. I was able to control myself and vacate that place before I bought some jewelry, and some decor for my blogging room. I had to tell myself to put it all down.
While at the salon, my bestie and I were chatting about how we would style the shirts that I had gotten, and we both agreed that a green utility vest was absolutely needed for the tops to be perfectly on trend. So that has now gone on my radar as something I must have…great right?
STORE THREE- FLAGSHIP TJ MAXX
Ok, so I headed into my favorite TJ Maxx that carries couture, knowing that I was going in and I was coming out with a robe, no matter what. Well, then my shopping ADD kicked in and I decided that I HAD to see what was on clearance for bags…
This beautiful, amazing bag was IN THE CLEARANCE section. I. Died. And then I grabbed that bitch and tossed into my cart. THEN I made it over to the “Intimates” section and found the perfect robe.
THEN I FOUND A GREEN UTILITY VEST! I know, seriously I was in heaven. Like you have no idea. So now that I have officially started my Fall shopping, because I can’t control myself. I have decided that I will make everything I purchased do work on my travels this summer, because conveniently everywhere I am visiting is not hot. So yay!
Wow what an INSANE weekend! If you follow me on Instagram then you probably noticed that my account has become saturated with photos of yours truly and some country music stars. If you have been following then you are probably wondering HOW exactly I ended up in this situation.
So here is the scoop.
One of my long time (like High School days) best friends happens to work in radio. Three years ago when the Faster Horses Festival was announced my bestie was asked to go work the weekend. She needed someone to go with her that would work and that the radio team could trust. Guess who happens to be trustworthy, professional, and is a hard worker? THIS GIRL!! Each year I bust my ass and help in any way I can, part of the job is to facilitate meet and greets between the artist and fans.
So how does this connect with Curls and Contours? Well I was in a SERIOUS fashion bind this weekend, like required “Unisex” staff t-shirt bind. So I worked with what I had and tried to make it work.
Remember that skort that I purchased for hiking on my west coast travels this summer? Well that little skort was a LIFE SAVER this past weekend. Like, you have no idea, stretchy, cute, and sun protection? Perfect. In fact, I wore that skort everyday. On my feet I went with my trusty Chacos (not the cutest) but so comfortable.
I switched out statement necklaces everyday just for a little variety, and to show some sass. This was fun, and as always the right statement necklace can be a great conversational piece.
I was able to meet so many fantastic artists and the people that work with them. We had a great time chatting and helping fans have a great meet and great experience.
I am so thankful for this opportunity, each year its a once and a lifetime experience, and each year somehow it get even better (that doesn’t seem possible). Thank you B93.7
Here are some of the artists I was able to meet.
Carrie Underwood (OHH MY GOD I MET CARRIE UNDERWOOD!!)
And then we got to go on stage with Brad, and WOW what an experience!
