You know how sometimes you just throw an outfit on and it looks amazing? Yeah, this wasn’t one of those times. lol. I have been stalking this dress on Gwynnie Bee for months, I knew that it would be adorable for a warm fall day, I knew the length would be perfect for me. I JUST KNEW THIS DRESS WAS AMAZING. Then, these boots I have been hunting for a pair of over the knee boots for awhile, but they had to be perfect. Just the right amount of rugged refinement(I live in Michigan not LA ok), they had to be a flattering color, and then had to have a heel, not a wedge, not a tiny little point, but a good solid heel . I came across these on Torrid(a contemporary plus size line) and I thought they would fit the bill. AND GUESS WHAT! My planning was perfect because this look turned out exactly the way I wanted. The dress is short but not show your butt cheeks off short, and the boots are rugged but make a statement. I carried my fall/winter crossbody bag just so I could have my hands free.
Sorry about the photo quality(iPhone), I actually wore this look to a girls night out concert, and we snapped them before we went in to the venue. Ladies let me tell you, my confidence was through the roof with this look. Powerful, Beautiful, Comfortable. It was all there.
Also…I am not hiding behind my sunglasses for this look, I get really self conscious about my face. So I often just wear my sunglasses in shoots so I can offset my face shape, or hide (in my opinion) my small eyes. I know its not real life, but its something I struggle with. We all have our things right? 🙂
Thank you Lindsay for being willing to be my photographer LOVE YOU!! P.S. you are hired for any and all future west side blog shoots. xoxoxo.
I have been on a search for the perfect skinny jean for years, and I have tried them all. Different brands, new styles, new jean “technology”, you name it I have given it a go. As a self proclaimed “Jeans girl’ I feel like my research has led me to a couple of insights that I try to stick with when I am shopping for skinny jeans.
Curvy girls, buy the jeans that are made for curvy figures, that pocket placement and higher rise is sent from heaven down to us girls that can fill out a pair of jeans. TRUST.
Don’t buy jeans without pockets, just don’t.
Don’t be afraid to try the “Plus Size” jeans. I KNOW its hard sometimes to accept that your booty has grown, and its time to size up. Believe me I know, but again ladies. Fit really matters, and no one is going to be thinking “Is she wearing a 16W or just a 16” its hard to get that punk ass devil off our shoulders but good fitting jeans(clothing in general) is what can make your confidence and inner beauty shine through.
This particular pair of skinny jeans is from Democracy Denim, I scooped them up through Gwynnie Bee, and I will say just in case you are thinking it. I am a Gwynnie Bee affiliate(they advertise on Curls and Contours and I sometimes do sponsored work for them), BUT I actually pay every month for the service. These jeans did not come to me c/o, I put them in my virtual closet and patiently waited for them to arrive at my house.
They have a stretchy waistband, and this brand has their own jean technology called “Ab-solution”, basically the jean has been darted and cut to help keep things in place. Which lets be real what women doesn’t love that. Amiright? hahaha
They are stretchy and definitely stretched to fit my frame even more as I wore them. I will link some similar pairs to try in all sizes.
The above is EXACTLY what I am wearing. I have linked so affordable options in the post below, to get the same look at a better price point.
A year of blogging has gone by for me, when I look back on my first fall as the creator of Curls and Contours, I can’t help but laugh at some of the work I put out there for the world to see. My sense of style(and confidence) has continued to develop over the past year, and as I move into my second fall as the creator of Curls and Contours I really can’t wait to see what happens. Its these moments as a style blogger that are really something special. THIS DRESS is so gorgeous, its perfect for date night, brunch, a casual wedding reception etc… It is amazing to me how one beautiful piece of clothing can help your confidence sky rocket. For me these types of pieces help me focus in on the best parts of me, and not just physically but mentally too. Its like I can see the girl that I am on the inside when I wear this dress. Is that crazy?
With such a loud “Look at me” pattern, I knew that I needed to keep my accessories on the simple side. I went with a nude wedge, my new clutch :), and some tortoise sunglasses. I have talked about this style of dress before, a true wrap dress will cross over in front of you, and requires a belt to keep everything in place. This dress is a wrap but I don’t need to do the wrapping, they stitched the front together so you can just pull the dress on (so easy) and then tie the belt where you would like.
A little fashion history
The original wrap dress was created by the iconic designer Diane von Furstenberg. In the 1970’s Diane von Furstenberg arrived in New York with a suitcase full of what would be known as one of the most iconic dress shapes of all time, the wrap dress. With a v-neckline and a soft jersey fabric this dress is universally flattering to women of all shapes and sizes. DVF was the creator, but luckily for the rest of the world, this dress has be created and re-created by designers for all types of bodies, and tastes.
This particular dress came from Curvaceous Boutique, a fabulous store located in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Curvaceous Boutique carries so many different wrap style dresses that I couldn’t count them all. The best part? They are made specifically for the plus size woman. No need to hide in black shift dresses ladies, a fun color pattern in a ultra flattering cut will always keep you comfortable and confident.
This post was sponsored by Curvaceous Boutique, thank you for working with Curls and Contours 🙂
Funny story…I have been pining after these two Clare V clutches for months and months(the foldover and flat Clare V leopard calf hair), I really really wanted one of these bags to add to my collection for the Fall. But they were back ordered almost everywhere, I even tried to have my SA at Nordstrom transfer one of the bags in for me to look at(which by the way was a bust). I was on the hunt, watching reviews, shopping around, checking out new and used places on the internet that had the bags. I finally, decide that I was going to just purchase the foldover clutch and make it happen. SO the day that I bought the foldover I happened to be driving by my favorite resale boutique. I had time so I popped in and YOU KNOW WHAT! They had the flat clutch in the case, can you believe that, I mean what are the freaking odds. So obviously I bought the flat clutch, with a vow that I would return the foldover (which I paid FULL price for).
Somehow in less than 24hrs, after months of kicking the bag(pun intended) I had become the owner of not one but TWO Clare V leopard clutches. So I made a plan, I was going to review the bags and compare them to each other, and blog about it. I really would like to make a youtube comparison video, but I have no clue how to do that(work in progress).
Ok, first things first, this bag is GORGEOUS. I know you have seen it on a million bloggers and fashionistas and there is a reason why. Its gorgeous, and a super trendy neutral, the calf hair is ultra soft and each bag is unique because it is made from natural fibers(leather). What I love about the foldover clutch is the handbag feel it has. Yes, its a a big square but once you drop your stuff into it and fold it over you have a this awesome super soft and slouchy handbag that just screams take me out and carry me around. I have worn this bag with patterned dresses, flowy peasant blouses, and just your basic LBD and booties.
I know your like “But Anne what fits in this bag?” I will tell you quite a bit.
I use my LV Neverfull Pouch as a wallet, its big and I am in the market for a new wallet(hint hint Keith I know you are reading this 🙂 ) but this bad boy is working perfectly until I get something different. I have to angle the pouch to get it into the clutch but once its in its a really good fit. My phone(6 plus) and keys(I have two different car keys and two house keys on my key ring) and a lipstick(currently wearing Mary Kay Crushed Berry). All of this fits in the clutch and honestly you could probably fit more, but I don’t like to stress my bags so I keep it pretty minimal. If I were to put more into the bag, it would lose that soft folded look that I love so much. I am really strict about my sunglasses, they would fit in this clutch with the other items without the case BUT I am one of those people that believes they should be on your face or in the case. Soo…no case means I am wearing them, either on my face or on top of my head(which I KNOWWW it stretches them out but whatever). But if you don’t mind, or you have a soft sunglasses case, you would easily be able to fit you sunglasses in the bag with the other items I listed.
Ok first things first. The Flat clutch is 30 bucks cheaper than the foldover clutch and is not quite as popular as its square sister. Those two reasons are what initially attracted me to the flat clutch, not as many people had it AND it was a smidge cheaper. After doing my due diligence by looking for youtube reviews on this bag(which btw don’t exist), Pinterest stalking bloggers that happened to carry the flat clutch and talking to my Nordstrom SA about the bags I decided to order the foldover because I wanted more of a handbag feel. Now that I own both bags (oops) I can tell you this one has its own set of qualities that its sister does not. This clutch is more comparable to a pouch, its simple, easy to carry, and easier to navigate. It is the same length as the other bag but because its shorter it doesn’t hold as much. I forced my LV Pouchette into it, but then it just felt stiff. Like I said before, because these bags are made out of leather and calf hair the leopard pattern varies on each bag. The flat clutch is significantly lighter than the foldover, you can easily see that in the photos above. Now it won’t be that way for every single clutch that is out there, but in my case thats how it worked out :).
Now I hear you I hear you. “What exactly are you fitting into the Flat Clutch Anne?” lol
Inside my LV Pouchette I have a little Hobo International French Wallet to hold all my cards. I scooped it up at Nordstrom Rack in the spring for like 30 bucks, its a great little piece to go inside my LV pouch and helps transform the pouch from a little bag to a big wallet. I love it because it is leather(I have a thing for natural fibers), and I have had many Hobo wallets in the past(before LV came into my life) that are seriously freaking amazing. I have one Hobo wallet that is legit 10 years old and still looks brand new, and I carried that bitch for most of those 10 years. ANYWAYS back on topic. I can fit my phone, keys and a lipstick into the flat clutch as well. If you over stuff this clutch then it looks stiff, which is the opposite of the look you are going for with this style of clutch.
So when I happened to end up with both bags, everyone in my life was like ” Anne you can’t keep them both blah blah blah.” And honestly I did try to convince myself to sell one or return one for a hot second. But because I am a hoarder of all things girlie and fun I am keeping both, so DEAL WITH IT. 🙂
Ok, this dress is bright, its bright and crazy and has so much going on( pockets, a belt). I recently purchased a new leopard clutch, and you know that thing that happens when you get something new that you love and it just so happens to match everythhinnggg that you own. So you somehow figure out how to wear or carry that piece with everything and to you its perfect. LOL. Well currently that’s me, and luckily I was right about mixing these two patterns. The cool green of this dress pops with the warm tones of the leopard clutch. Taking fashion risks is required from time to time, I am the type of girl that sticks to the routine. I have preached on this blog before about having a “fashion uniform” and sticking with it, but once in awhile its good to shake it up.
One of the fun parts of being a fashion blogger is having the chance to try out different trends and styles that you might not usually go for. I never would have dreamed that I could pull off a dress like this, but I take it as a personal style challenge to make different pieces my own. The best part? When things come together exactly the way you dreamed up.
Are the shoes a little over the top? Maybe. Is that ok? Hell yes. Playing different color tones off each other is a great way to try out pattern mixing without going for the classic stripes and florals mix. Its ok to be bold with what you wear, its ok to be curvy and bold and confident.
Take the fashion risk, and love yourself for going for it.
I know you aren’t ready to give up summer, because honestly I am not ready either. But I can’t lie, when I say that I am excited for muted tones and that cozy safe feeling that comes from a sweater on a cool day. My rule for transitional dressing is pretty easy to follow, if by the last two weeks of August its less than 80 degrees I am mixing my Fall favorites into my summer wardrobe. As the temps dip more and more of my fall pieces move into my regular rotation and less and less of my summer favorites are seen.
This LBD is actually a summer dress, but mixed with a flowy fall jacket and some fringe booties I am ready to take on the 50 degree mornings, 70 degree afternoons, and 60 degree evenings. Do you have any fall transition rules that are tried and true?
One of the best parts of blogging is being able to share beautiful things created by amazing real people.
I am always looking for a little extra something to add to an outfit, as a self proclaimed sunglasses and watch girl I am always without a necklace or earrings or both. I just can’t see myself with a different necklace everyday of the week and honestly that is the last thing I want to be thinking about when I am running out the door for work, I reach for my classic favorite pieces that go with everything and look perfectly in place with whatever I have on. I know that I will reach for the same pieces everyday because they have purpose or sentimental value, a small reminder of the person that gave me the piece, or a little way to keep my style personal and real for me.
Style tip: When you are trying to put some accessories together for an outfit, go big and small. An example would be big chandelier earrings, with a delicate gold bar necklace. Or druzy studs and a big statement necklace. Its all about balance, big earrings AND a big necklace can look overdone. I personally only wear bracelets on my watch wrist to create a stacking effect, (and to leave my writing hand free) 🙂
Being much more of a favorite few pieces girl I keep a some in constant rotation, because of that my accessories have to be quality. I am always on the lookout for jewelry that will work with any outfit and fit seamlessly into my wardrobe. If I am spending more sparingly on really quality pieces that will last and last, then I don’t need to shop constantly for costume jewels that may only last a couple of wears. A little 14k gold bar on a sparkly chain is the perfect trendy piece to add into my small cache of quality accessories. P.S. This bar is engraved with my monogram!(Soooo perfect)

I love being able to help small businesses grow, and gain exposure. I feel so lucky to have been able to work with A Trinket Trunk, and feature their beautiful work.
Talk about a dramatic high low hem, WOW. My husbands thoughts on this dress were ON POINT “Cute, its kinda weird but cute” hahahaha. I received this dress in my latest Gwynnie Bee box and thought I would give it a go.
Style tip- pattern mixing is a blast, but if you are not so sure start with one piece(like my dress) and then base the next pattern you bring in off of the that. There are stripes in the dress, so I grabbed my Henri Bendel clutch that is striped to bring in a slightly different pattern. You can do this with similar patterns, or match up colors in two different patterns. This little trick will always keep you fashion forward.
I went with really basic jewelry because this dress has so much going on, and my favorite summer wedges are back AGAIN because honestly I am obsessed with them lol. Its early August and all of my favorite bloggers are starting to talk about Fall already. Are you ready for some transitional pieces? I will be mixing them in as we move through August. Don’t worry though this girl is not done with summer yet!
Its finally review time, I have faithfully been carrying my Louis Vuitton Neverfull GM in monogram canvas for almost 3 months. This is not my first designer bag, but it is my first luxury designer handbag. I wanted this bag so bad, I read reviews, I looked at used ones, I watched every single youtube haul/unboxing/review out there. I just knew this bag was the one for me. And guess what this is the perfect bag. There are pros and cons to having a bag like this, and don’t you worry I will be sharing.
This bag has changed my life, I know that sounds completely insane but its true. Carrying this bag has elevated my style, a simple white tee and skinny jeans looks like a regular run of the mill outfit, add the Neverfull and you are wearing a chic, easy outfit for running errands.
Louis Vuitton is one of the most sought after brands in existence. Because of that fact, a LV bag retains most of its value(especially if your bag is well cared for).
The Neverfull GM literally holds EVERYTHING, I think it can hold up to 200 lbs so you can pack it up and know that the straps will hold.
If you are new to luxury bags like I am, this is bag gives you a lot of bang for your buck, at just over 1200 dollars you get a very large bag AND a small pochette(valued at around 500).
The customer service at LV is unheard of, if you have a problem with your bag contact the company, if you need a repair or a custom strap contact the company. When you purchase a luxury item you are not only buying the bag, but also buying into the customer service that goes with it.
Final pro? Its freaking beautiful, the leather is supple and soft and the canvas is so durable.
The leather is raw, so it is open to the elements(including your hands, weather, and just the air) that does mean as the bag ages the leather turns a beautiful honey brown. BUT if you spill anything on the leather, or it rains and you get the leather wet, or you lotion your hands and touch the handles. IT STAINS THE LEATHER. Which is my worst nightmare.
Because of the natural materials used in the bag, it can hold smells, take it into a steak restaurant? Guess what smells like steak the next day.
Once you own one LV bag you want to own more than one. They are addicting, I currently have my eye on the Josephine wallet. 🙂
Love the shape but not the price tag? Here are some options for you. 🙂
I was so blessed to be able to attend the Faster Horses Festival in Brooklyn Michigan this month. Faster Horses Festival is a 3 day event held at the Michigan International Speedway, live music is played on multiple stages and there is tons to to do, from eating and drinking to games and carnival rides. I am so lucky to be able to attend with one of my best friends(Hi Lindsay!! xoxo), she works for radio and takes me to help her each year with backstage stuff(I KNOW RIGHT!). Each year the struggle is REAL when it comes to what to wear. The first year I attended it was so freaking hot that we melted, there was absolutely no way to look cute. Then the past two years we had some station t-shirts to wear, so outfit choices were pretty limited to what goes with a unisex crew neck t-shirt. But this year we just happened to have the perfect weather, AND no dress code. HELLO curvy girl festival style. I went with leggings and swing dresses, I spiced it up accessories and comfy footwear(classic Anne move there) lol.
My go to rule for festival dressing is to start with footwear and work your way up. When my feet are uncomfortable I can’t enjoy myself, so any outfit I put together for long days on my feet have to be soo comfortable. And real talk here I wore my Chacos the first day and I got a real great blister so eff that. I decided to go for sneakers for the rest of the weekend. I wanted to have layers for when the sun went down, or a breeze picked up but I didn’t want to carry anything around with me, so I went with a light layer that I could tie around my waist(which is great for giving you a defined waist btw). In my dream world I would have had some Rag and Bone booties to wear but I made do with my sneakers.
When dressing for a festival here are some tips.
Comfortable footwear required
Sun Protection(sunscreen, hat etc…)
Statement accessories(think sunglasses, and big earrings)
Everything you wear has to be quality enough to take on the festival year after year OR cheap enough for a one time wear. Invest or go cheap, spending money on in between stuff is going to leave you with more money gone and all your stuff ruined. Ask me how I know that little tip LOL. 🙂
