It has been months since I have shared my weekend outfits!! During my workweek my clothes fall into the “Mom clothes” category, so on weekends and during my blog shoots I get to really play with my clothes! Today on the blog I am sharing 5 weekend outfits, and 4 things I am loving right now! Jacket | Leggings | Boots | Bag
The TV Show Ozark- Keith and I have been watching the Netflix original Ozark like crazy! We loved Breaking Bad, and this show has that same feel to it. A little dark, a little twisted but ultimately about a man that is willing to do anything for his family including break the law. We haven’t had “Cable” TV for years, its a money saver and we get plenty of entertainment from Netflix and Hulu!
2. Midcentury Industrial Home Decor- We are renovating our kitchen and I have become OBSESSED with home decor, its not something I share on the blog(I could, but I don’t think you are here for that lol). I am loving pretty much everything from West Elm, and have been doing a ton of research on concrete countertops and how to create an eclectic space that meshes old with new. If you have any home decor blogs that fit this criteria SEND THEM MY WAY!!
3. Low Heeled Booties- Last Fall I was all heeled booties ALL the time. I just could not get into the low heeled options. But this year, I have been super into what is being offered. I have two pairs that will be what I am wearing nonstop until December(when the real cold weather hits). Links HERE, and HERE for the exact pairs that I have been loving.
4. Cauliflower Mac and Cheese- Keith and I prefer to eat High Fat/Low Carb dinners, gluten in general is not really my friend. We both just feel better the next day when we follow this way of eating. I made some Cauliflower Mac and Cheese a couple of months ago and it has been a weekly meal since. We usually add extra veggies to the recipe, like onions and mushrooms and when Keith makes it he adds spices to make it hot!! Recipe link HERE
A few months ago, fellow blogger and friend Liz (With Wonder and Whimsy) and I attended a networking event together. While we were there we heard so many different statements about where plus size women shop, and where plus women COULD shop? This really stuck with us. As full figured bloggers we have a vast knowledge of different brands that cater to curvy women and sell plus size clothing, AND so many women DO NOT KNOW THEY EXIST! How could this be? How could there be so many curvy options yet the women in our area only shop at 3 places. This realization hatched a wonderful idea. We should bring all the fabulous plus size brands that we know and love to life, in the form of a fashion show. But not any fashion show, a girls night out, and and walking the runway? Real plus size women of all shapes and sizes! We want to be able to show that all curvy bodies are not the same, you can still rock what you are wearing no matter your size!
So we teamed up with 10 fabulous brands and set out to feature a look that would be the speak to the voice of each label and be on trend for Spring and Summer seasons. To be honest making the selections from each brand was TOUGH(how do you choose between so many awesome items), we wanted to stay true to the brand and feature pieces that we felt were signature to that company, but at the same time select items that spoke to our demographic and to our personal tastes as bloggers and stylists. Part of blogging is creating a finished look, so in addition to clothing we also wanted to style each look with jewelry, shoes and a bag!
Not to get gooey on you, but each item that is being featured in this event, was hand selected by Liz or I. We labored over this integral piece of the event, it was both the hardest and most rewarding part of the process. Then when we were able to get together to shoot promo we truly enjoyed interacting and playing with the clothing! I am so excited to share all of our hard work with you. 🙂
Any fabulous night out HAS to come with GIFTS. I mean I love presents, so doesn’t everyone? We are so excited to offer our guests swag bags jam packed with stuff!! I don’t want to give it all away, but each bag will have brand specific coupons for our guests to use after the fashion show! In addition to other fabulous goodies!
Now lets talk decor, I had no idea when I met Liz that she was also a party planner, but when we found this out about each other it was PERFECT. I take great care in every party I plan, to the very last detail it is of great importance to me that each piece be perfect. I am so delighted to be able to incorporate items I already keep in my party decor inventory(yes I have that, its a thing) with vendors that Liz knows and loves. She turned me onto an Esty shop that is straight up darling!
Side note – Feel free to ask me about my grandmothers 80th Halloween Birthday party. It was INSANE, people thought I rented everything. Nope, its in the inventory :). I digress. lol
You may be thinking “Anne, I am from Southeast Michigan and I read your blog and I already know where to shop.” Yes! And I want to meet you! Liz and I are so excited to meet readers and supporters of our passions. Seriously meeting a reader or a follower of Curls and Contours is like Christmas morning, I always ask Keith if I am ever a little to excited when I meet someone that follows Curls and Contours. I am like “Hi how are you, tell me about your whole life and I love your outfit, and THANK YOU FOR READING MY BLLLOOOGGGGG!” lol Don’t let that scare you off, I promise I am super chill in person. Promise. 😉
If you are a blogger, or in the fashion industry we want you to attend so that you can network with others in the Fashion Industry, boutique owners will be there, retail industry babes will be there, the people that YOU NEED TO MEET will be chilling with us on May 7th! Its so empowering to be with other women that share the same passions as you do, and this Girls Night Out is the perfect place to make new friends and find new business contacts.
Come, have a drink or two 🙂 and some appetizers. Chat with your girlfriends and enjoy some fashion. We can’t wait to meet you!
Make sure to get your tickets EARLY! We have limited seating and tickets are selling FAST!
I recently had coffee with a new blogger friend, its crazy how small the world is. Its so great to meet new people, and to share some caffeine with someone that does the same work you do. Afterwords we set out to photograph each other, my hubby does most of my photography and it was refreshing to get a female perspective. Sometimes a little girl talk is just what the doctor ordered, it is so helpful to chat with a fellow creative. For inspiration, room to vent, and to toss around current issues facing the plus size community.
Something that I went out and did as soon as our little outing was over, was to buy a writing prompt book. Liz(her blog With Wonder and Whimsy) inspired me to work harder at my love of writing. I love reading, and writing, its something that I have always loved. As a way to work on my skills, I ordered a new journal(thanks for the idea Liz!) with daily writing prompts. I will link a few below if you are interested. 🙂
I personally ordered the “Soul Journal” but will probably end up owning all three of the journals I listed.
I ordered this Boohoo “Jumper” a few weeks ago, I just love the lace detail. I styled it here with leggings and OTK boots because I freaking love OTK boots(HA). And I wore it this past weekend with jeans and a leather jacket for an evening out. I typically size up when ordering from a UK brand, I would rather have to have something be to big and or altered by a seamstress then have it be to tight. In this case the sweater was a perfect fit.
I am so looking forward to starting my soul journal tomorrow, and I plan on sharing some prompts in future posts.
Follow my fellow curvy blogger and new friend Liz at withwonderandwhimsy.com, photo credit is all hers for this post. 🙂
I am not the type of person to identify as sexy, I don’t think of myself in that way and I don’t dress with that intention. I NEVER imagined that a sweater dress would be considered sexy or this curve hugging. Yet somehow each winter I come across a sweater dress that hugs everything just right, I cozy up in a sweater dress, the stars align and I feel like I have that little extra “Va-voom.” I usually am a big fan of long cardigans, and flowy tops but I feel perfectly confident in a sweater dress, I am not showing tons of skin. I am just letting the curves out from under that cardigan.
I can’t be the only one with this “Sweater dress phenomenon”, have you tried a sweater dress lately?
In a world where everything is made by the thousands and in a factory it is so refreshing to have something homemade just for you. As we set in for the coldest part of winter, you constantly need to have a third layer just to keep some semblance of warmth, a great way to incorporate this is with an infinity scarf. Etsy is a great place to find handmade items and gain access to creators that are just waiting to make something just for you. My friend Sasha has a fantastic little Etsy shop she can crochet basically anything(make sure to check out her shark and mermaid blankets) she made this scarf to order just for me, and I had to share her work with you. We go way back, like Equestrian Team way back, I love that I can share her work and spread the word about a good creative person making beautiful things. 🙂 Its basically one of the best parts about this blogging gig.
Also…THIS OUTFIT! To say I am obsessed would be an understatement. From now on if it has ruffles on the hem, I want it. AND the color, its pretty damn close to cream and you know my thing about cream sweaters.
I plan on wearing this scarf with everything casual, from this sweater and skinnies to some leggings and a tunic. This particular scarf has a slight tinsel in it(which is basically glitter), it adds that little extra something.
Finally some winter weather! Faux Fur is having a moment this winter, and I am LOVING IT! Scarves, vests, jackets, gloves. This is a cozy trend that is easy to try and so chic.
I am in the market for a new down coat, I love my trusty old down coat, but its OLD like 6 years old, and the zipper is giving out, and its OLD and basically I just want a new one. This one was a gift from my mother, when I started college I needed a LONG down coat to trek across campus in. Now that I am free from College I think I can invest in a new coat.
I don’t truly consider the holidays over until my tree is down and the last bulb is safely packed away in the basement. The day has finally come and my home has returned to its original state. Curls and Contours can now get back to business.
The Michigan weather has been unseasonably warm, so naturally I have been forgoing a bulky coat and layering up in different ways. This includes but is not limited too, vests, coatigans, and layering sweaters. I LOVE layering sweaters and button down shirts together, I know that it might not be the most flattering look for the curvier girl. BUT I don’t CARE. I love layering and I love sweaters and I love them together.
I have been on the hunt for a beanie type hat that would flatter my very round face. I started the season with zero winter hats, and I now have TWO. I just dream of being one of those Pinterest girls that wear amazing hats and sunglasses all winter. I have found that with my round face and my curls, I need a beanie that fits loose, so I don’t smash my curls, and my face doesn’t puff out under a very tight hat(lol, but seriously).
This whole look just has that something that I really love about winter dressing.
What is it about sparkly things that just make women fall in love, I LOVE sparkly things, jewelry, accessories, tops you name it. I took a fashion risk with this skirt, I scoured Pinterest and obsessed over sequin skirts until I landed on one that I thought I could make work for me. If you follow me at all you know that I am a pretty strict dark bottoms girl, I don’t really ever reach for anything that is going to highlight my “Assets.” So I landed on this little skirt, and big shocker its from Nordstrom(you know my favorite place). But when I got it, it was painfully long and matronly(if thats possible for a sequin skirt). So I had it hemmed by my wonderful Aunt and costume maker extraordinaire. She took off enough skirt to make me an infinity scarf. HA.
Now if you are thinking about putting this outfit together for yourself. Which I highly encourage, so cute. Here are a couple of tips. which I learned through trial and error, and discouraging looks from my husband.
Make sure your skirt is a flattering length FOR YOU. Not everyone wants to rock a mini skirt, and when you are talking about having a sparkly ass, the length and fit HAS GOT TO BE RIGHT.
Whatever flannel you choose, it has to be on the fitted side. I tried on two other flannels and both were out because they were too baggy. My shape was lost, and the whole look seemed unbalanced.
Wear jewelry that you love and are comfortable with. You definitely need something, but it doesn’t need to be over the top. I like big jewelry so I went with a statement necklace AND statement earrings. If thats not your thing, no worries.
Its Christmas Eve, if you are preparing for a family get together over the next 3 days(I know I am) and you don’t have a sequin skirt. Don’t sweat it, try something that you might deem a fashion risk. Rock those skinny jeans you have in the back of the closet, grab that blouse that you think might be a little over the top.
I stumbled across this dress while shopping Nordstrom online a month ago and I fell in love with the coloring and the high low style. I grabbed it up on sale, and was surprised how thin the fabric was. Still flattering and fall/winter(ish) the search began for some accessories to take this dress into winter.
Ahh, this pink is so so gorgeous, its the perfect Marie Antoinette meets Mean Girls pink. A fantastic shade on virtually anyone, AND its so in for Fall and Winter! I really happened to stumble upon this entire outfit, you know how sometimes things just really come together? That is this outfit for me, the bag was an LA Neiman’s find, the Jeans are classic leggings, booties are last year from Dr. Scholls of all places, the scarf is a last minute I need a scarf and I happen to be at TJ Maxx find, and the top was a Nordstrom Rack 80% grab. IN FACT I have the same tunic top in green and gray(which I did pay full price for…boo).
In case you happen to be wondering. MY pumpkins and fall stuff is still out, because I don’t start Christmas until AFTER Thanksgiving. So. There.
Back to this pink, super easy and glam to pair with creams and whites. Pastel pink is the new neutral for me. From sunnies to tunics, its easy to wear but just lends that little extra “I am sassier than I look” vibe. Perfect for every woman I know.
