My new favorite outfit of all time. The softest sweater ever, plaid and some skinny jeans. Now I know what you might be thinking, um hello that outfit does NOT show off your curvaceous bod Anne. I agree, but its so soft and comfortable. This sweater is relaxed and falls easily over my flannel and curves. I wanted to balance this sweater with some skinny jeans that are very fitted. I wore this particular look with wedge booties, but it would also work great with some riding boots. When shopping for a sweater that you want to layer with, really consider how its going to lay over the top of the button up you have in mind. I like a looser look, so I sized up in the sweater.
I love BIG jewelry, so I picked a bold statement necklace to pair with the sweater and skinnies. But smaller subtle accessories would be just as chic.
For the past couple of weeks I have been on the hunt for a new black boot. Each year I update my boot collection in the Fall. I have this thing about boots, some fashionistas have a thing about purses, or nail polish, or expensive jeans. While I do love all of those things, for me its boots I just freaking LOVE boots. Over the years I have curated my tastes in a good boot specifically to leather all weather boots. I am really hard on my shoes, I always have been. That now translates into needing really good shoes, and a variety of them to share the workload. Thats at least what I tell my husband every time a new boot box comes through the door. Haha.
I have fabulous brown boots, I have fabulous snow boots, I have fabulous rain boots, I have fabulous wedge boots, I have fabulous riding boots, I have fabulous cowboy boots. My current black boot situation is not good, the pair from last year was not quality. So I am on the hunt. I want something rugged but subtle, not refined. I like a boot with buckles and a thick sole. I also need a wide calf. I want a leather boot, that is waterproof but not insulated(I have insulated boots already). With all of those specifications my pool of choices has become pretty small. I am sharing my options and the boots that I am picking from.
Being a curvy boot loving girl, I have to be careful to balance my whole appearance when wearing boot and skinnies. A rugged boot, with buckles and some slouch helps create a balance to your look.
Have you seen the colors, I mean its so beautiful and inspiring. I had to stop and snap some photos today of my favorite town. The colors are so vibrant its hard to look away. I happen to be wearing my favorite coatigan today that I have talked about before on Curls and Contours, but it sold out. Boo. I am attaching some options for you to get a similar look.
On Saturday the hubby and I headed out for an adventure around Southern Michigan. The Mitten State has become increasingly popular in recent years for wineries. They are popping up everywhere! We live just west of Ann Arbor, near the popular southern Michigan wine trail. To celebrate our anniversary this year Keith and I decided to tour some wineries in our area. We had a blast, bought way to much wine and and ate way to much cheese.
First stop!J Trees Winery in Tecumseh Michigan, this beautiful Cidery and Winery is located in the restored Hayden Mill in Tecumseh. I loved their Frazzle sparkling Rosé! I loved the atmosphere and decor of this location, it was light and airy with lots of photographs and fantastic light fixtures. The bar was bright and felt fresh and trendy.
Next!Flying Otter Winery in Adrian Michigan, this beautiful all outdoor space had fantastic views and great atmosphere! I fell in love with their Apple Pie Dessert wine, and Keith loved the Chancellor table red. We were able to walk around amongst the grapes a bit before taking off for the next spot.
NEXT! We traveled over to Brooklyn Michigan home of The Michigan International Speedway to visit Cherry Creek Winery. This place was beyond cool, located in a restored one room schoolhouse. This Winery also had live music, a great patio and THE BEST Lambrusco I have ever had! After the tasting we just hung out and listened to music on the patio for awhile.
Our next stop was Lone Oak Vineyard Estate in Grass Lake Michigan! What was neat about this winery, was that it was an Estate winery, meaning the only grapes used to create the wine were grown on the property.
Our last stop of the day was The Sand Hill Crane Vineyard. The favorite from our first wedding anniversary. Keith and I picked a wine from this vineyard on our first anniversary that we plan on opening on our 10 year anniversary. This year at Sand Hill Crane we purchased a Maple Syrup wine that will knock your socks off, aptly named Annie’s Mapleshine, and a Apple Crisp wine that you serve warm that is simply delicious.
We had planned to end the day with an elegant dinner somewhere BUT someone (that would be me) had a little too much wine, so we ordered greek salads from takeout and relaxed at home with some Criminal Minds and WATER. lol
Ann Taylor is known for making professional clothing for women. I picked up this pretty little dress and knew that it had the versatility to be much more than just a dress for the office. When I am shopping for clothing it MUST be versatile. I only buy something when I know that I can wear and re-wear a piece over and over again. Like I have wrote about before when you build a solid foundation of quality pieces you can really wear your wardrobe to its fullest extent. This dress is light, and can easily be worn in the summer with sandals, as Fall makes its way into our lives this dress can be worn with tights and boots. If you have a dress that has that light feel, have you considered pairing it with tights and boots for Fall?
Have you ever just taken a drive and turned up somewhere that took your breath away? My husband and I love to take drives, we talk and wander down country roads just taking in the sights. This past Saturday we came across the most beautiful spot, we just had to stop and take some photos.
What is it about a well made flannel that just seems right? Just like with most clothing not all flannels are created equal. You can get them anywhere, but a quality flannel is SO WORTH IT. Ralph Lauren is the premier Americana clothing brand. I am a big Ralph Lauren fan, everything is quality and feels like the perfect mix of luxury and rustic utility.
This beautiful spot is in Chelsea, Michigan, I am wearing Ralph Lauren, my favorite leopard scarf, and some leggings. Not seen in these photos are my Hunter boots, and my red rain coat.
This little outfit is SO ME its not even funny. Tunic, leggings, scarf, boots this combo is basically my Fall uniform. What I love about this outfit is that it is SO easy to throw on and go. You just need to make sure your leggings aren’t see through, and your tunic covers your front and back. Nobody wants to see your bits and pieces while you are grocery shopping, or picking up your kids from school. Truth is power, and that is the TRUTH about leggings and tops.
I picked up this top in two colors during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, and I love it. BUT it wrinkles easily. So if that doesn’t bother you then this top is a great basic option to add to your wardrobe(personally its not that big of a deal). If a couple wrinkles makes you crazy then I would keep shopping. Green is SO in for Fall, and this shade is a fun option, I am pro matchy matchy so pairing this pastel green with my scarf and sunnies was a no brainer. The hat was a last minute thought, and its cute, but I will probably wear this outfit without it. Seriously I LOVE matching. A lot.
When I put this look on, my friend and photographer instantly said we needed to head to my garden. These photos were so fun to shoot. Lots of laughs, and my husbands potato box was my prop. Hahaha.
HELL YES! I finally got to go to a Vintage Glamper show and Flea Market! I have this secret (ok not so secret) love for glampers (glamorous campers). I have been actively searching for an old crappy camper to redo into a fantastical girl camper, to take out on weekends and just be girly and sparkly in. You know drink Rosé, knit, and eat Meringues. A friend told me about this event happening just west of our place that was featuring vintage glampers and other girly fabulous vintage items. So OF COURSE we decided to go, and OF COURSE it was shitty weather. So I was able to break out my rain jacket, and blanket scarf…Can I get another HELL YES! I love my scarves.
I got so much inspiration from this event for my own glamper, it was seriously like Pinterest coming to life right before my eyes…SO AMAZING. Now my glamper fever is EVEN worse than it was before.
Catch up with me on Pinterest! I have an entire board all about my Pinterest obsessions.
This weekend Keith and I went to a family wedding just north of Cincinnati OH in a little town called Hamilton. We left Saturday morning and knew that we were going to take our time getting down to the wedding because we love a road trip. We live just north west of Ann Arbor MI, so the drive was going to be a solid 4 hours for us. The only stop that I had planned was one at the Cincinnati Premium Outlets (P.S. You should ALWAYS stop at an outlet when on a road trip). We were leaving the rest of our little adventures up to a whim.
Big shock that my husband wanted to stop at Cabelas (which is only a 45 minute drive from our home). I was down to go look around, so we went for it. It is widely known in our area that this store is a BIG draw for tourists. So it can be fun to go and see all the displays and aquariums that they have in the store, NOT to mention the clothes and shoes!
This is part of a GIANT display of animals at the center of the store. They call the display “Conservation Mountain.”
Coming up in just a few short months I will be traveling to the West Coast (LA, Monterray, San Francisco, Telluride) for sometime. This vacation is going to be a VERY physically active one, and I have been internet stalking quite a few items for sometime. LUCKILY for me Cabelas carried what I was looking for, and I was able to make some purchases towards my vacation wardrobe!
Lets talk hiking clothes for the girl in between. I have been searching high and low for the right hiking apparel for about a month, I have been really trying to get settled on my fashion uniform for this trip. What is a fashion uniform you ask? A fashion uniform is when you wear or pack similar clothing styles so that you have A. Lots of mix and match choices and B. One look that does vary but the same central style pieces stay consistent. For the girl in between, a fashion uniform is a GOOD thing. It means that you know what works for you and you have a sense of how to dress yourself comfortably and appropriately.
Ok back to my trip. I KNOW that I am going to be walking/hiking ALOT, so I have been looking for bottoms, a rain jacket, hiking boots, and a rugged bag. I have almost ordered all of these items multiple times, but I just couldn’t make myself pull the trigger. ENTER Cabelas a dropped in my lap opportunity to try these items, and buy some items to break the ice and get me going. I tried, a dress, cropped leggings, and two pairs of shorts to start. ALL of which I would have gladly taken home with me. BUT my need for bottoms was not that great so I only purchased one pair of shorts.
1. The quality and the warrantee on any of their products is fantastic.
2. They are a basic black short, which fits my fashion uniform for the trip.
3. People in Michigan are OBSESSED with anything North Face.
4. This company carries up to a size XL which is me so, they actually FIT!
As I was walking out of the hiking section I noticed some summer rain jackets. I grabbed the Columbia Switchback II jacket and walked out. Sometimes you just have to grab and go! I got the pink which is very fitting for me, and I grabbed the size XL, I threw it on in the parking lot and it was a perfect fit! Enough room for layers but not so baggy that I couldn’t wear it on its own.
When we stopped at the Outlets, I had a specific plan to shop for Fathers day gifts, what I didn’t plan on was the Columbia store. I was able to price check my rain jacket (I got a great deal!) and shop around for more active bottoms. I had been thinking for awhile that I would like to try out an active skirt, and at Columbia they had a wide array to choose from. I ended up purchasing a black basic skort, that will work for everyday wear and light hiking (YAY me!).
