Good morning! I wanted to share a quick holiday inspiration post featuring my white Society+ Anne Lace Skirt. I have been wearing my black skirt so much lately but haven’t been pulling the white lace out. I styled this look with a green J.Jill sweater and a red scarf, for a christmas themed look.
Can you believe that we are just two weeks away from Christmas! I have been working away on finishing up my Christmas list and I think I am almost finished! I just need something each of my FOUR nieces can wear and then my list will be done. THANK GOODNESS!
I can’t be the only girl out there that hates dealing with tights, can I? I would much rather put on a sassy pair of boots and be free than wear tights. I find myself reaching for OTK boots more and more this season, they are just so simple and a great pair of boots really can add to your look!
A texturized scarf is a great way to add interest to your look, I also love cozying up with a scarf when I am out to eat, or hanging at home. Green, red and white are so festive this time of year one of the reasons this look works so well is the textures and the deeper hue of the red and green. I love dressing for the holidays but want to avoid looking like Cindy Lou Who LOL, going for the colors of the season in deeper hues is a great way to achieve that.
There are so many reasons to celebrate the fall season, here in Michigan as the days turn colder and the nights grow longer it almost feels bittersweet. Like we all know what is coming, the COLDDDD weather is coming and its now its our job to get out and enjoy every bit of nice weather left to soak up. So! I teamed up with Lane Bryant to share my favorite Fall date day/night spots here in Michigan and a couple of ultra chic outfits. A little bit educational, a little bit fashionable this post has been so fun to put together.
Lets get started.
HANDS DOWN my favorite day date in the fall is to tour the Pioneer Wine Trail. This is a driving tour of nine wineries(we never make it to all nine LOL). We like to go and have a tasting and snack at each winery and then purchase a bottle from each location, this stocks our cellar for a few months and each bottle has a memory to go with it. The wineries are all located around and between Jackson and Tecumseh MI, we opt to take the back roads and enjoy the colorful foliage.
When Keith and I were first married(in the fall) we toured the Pioneer Wine Trail for our first anniversary. We purchased a bottle of wine from the last winery and decided to save it for our 10 year wedding anniversary. At the time it felt like a lifetime away, and this year we celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary. We joked that we will be drinking that bottle in no time, and how funny it was that time has passed so quickly when we truly thought it would take forever. 🙂
My favorite outfit combination for a day full of fall themed outdoor activities is simple. Jeans, cute blouse, adorable outerwear, comfortable shoes. You are guaranteed to be comfortable, super cute and able to move about with ease. Lane Bryant just recently released their new line of super stretch skinny jeans that are so trendy, they have so many styles to choose from and they totally got in on the distressing game. Which is so exciting, plus size women need more easily accessible fashionable items Lane Bryant really went above and beyond with their skinny jeans.
Fit tip- these skinnies run a tad long(I’m 5′ 6″), and with the nature of distressing each pair is a little different from the next. Go to the store and try these on, the SA’s there will be able to help you get the right fit. I own two pairs, the ones in this photo are a 14 and the other pair I have are a 16.
Statement sleeves are all the rage right now, this one stands out from the rest for a couple of reasons. The stretchy fabric and the versatility. This kind of top is one that gets so much wear, its perfect for a day date touring wineries or tucked into a skirt at the office. I have been stalking this military inspired vest since I first noticed it on the website, I love the olive color and the soft sweater knit. Dusters have become increasingly popular these past few seasons and this year they are still popping up on almost every brands Fall/Winter rollout.
Style Tip – When styling a knee length or longer topper really consider the proportions of the rest of your outfit. Often times garments that go past your knee can have a “drowning effect” on the person wearing them. My trick is to always pair a long topper with a fitted pant and a heel. This gives me height and helps my shape to still show through.
When the weather starts to turn I want to be cozy. I find myself pulling out all my comfy knit leggings and soft blankets at home, but that look doesn’t necessarily translate to a fun date night look. For my date night look I wanted to share a twist on the usual sweater and riding boots look that so many women fall prey to this time of year.
My favorite date night spot in the fall is a restaurant that offers patio seating with fire places or open fire pits. Keith and I frequent a local brewery that has the best biergarten, we usually dine somewhere within walking distance and then enjoy an evening stroll over to the brewery to enjoy a pint and cozying up by there fire places on the patio. This is a social place, we love meeting new people by the fireside and just enjoying the romance of a fall evening.
I styled this tie sleeve sweater with a merlot pleated skirt and my favorite block heeled sandals. I love how cozy this sweater is, the skirt lends this whole look a feminine ultra chic feel, and the heels amp up the sexy factor without having to show a ton of skin. I am a big fan of heavy and light fabric working together, I think it creates a really chic balanced look that women usually don’t go for.
Fit Tip – Its all about balance when playing with heavier knits and silky polyester blends. You want the look to have that cozy feel but you don’t want to get lost in the fabric, don’t be afraid to size up or down to achieve the desired look. When I first pulled this outfit at Lane Bryant I had my sizes opposite. I pulled a size up in the sweater and my usual size in the skirt. After working with the stylists and playing for a bit I ended up leaving the store with a size up in the skirt, and my regular size in the sweater.
The sleeve detail on this sweater is adjustable, which I really appreciate. This sweater just went from something for date night or the weekends, to a piece that I can adjust and wear to work with slacks or skinny pants. I am not a under tank layering girl, so I didn’t add a layer between my bra and this sweater. It doesn’t bother me that my bra shows through a touch. To make this sweater more versatile you can always add a tank between the sweater and your bra.
Guys…..this is my third pleated skirt, each one is a little different so its not a hoarding issue right? LOL pleated skirts have been a part of a chic girls closet arsenal for years, but just recently have been popping up in ALL THE FUN COLORS AND FABRICS. I love the fall feel that this one has, and its so easy to wear(no spanx needed). Lane Bryant is offering this skirt in both merlot and black, the polyester blend lets this skirt stay super light and versatile.
Style Tip – Pleated skirts are being offered in a variety of fabrics and patterns this year, as the weather get colder don’t be afraid to add fun tights and booties. This type of skirt is so versatile that you can really play up your accessories to create a unique look.
What is something you love doing in the fall before the weather gets to chilly? Let me know in the comments below!
When Liz and I were in NYC this past June we toured the Avenue headquarters, there we were able to get a sneak peak at what Ave was planning for fall. Thats when I found this beauty! I have been patiently waiting for this dress to get in at Avenue and it finally haaasssss!! You know me, I am a sucker for a little black dress and while that is easy and fun it can get a little mundane. For that reason I have been trying to work more patterned pieces into my wardrobe, this dress is great for that, it definitely gives off that dark vibe that I love, but is also fun for fall and on trend with the sleeve detail.
Why this dress has all the ingredients for success this fall
Statement sleeves- this fall statement sleeves are SOOOO INNN, this dress is 3/4 sleeve with flared lace detail.
Dark Florals – the black base of this print lets this dress be great for September and for November, more about dark florals HERE
The Silhouette – this piece features a fitted bodice and a breezy rayon blend skirt, what I love about this silhouette is the ease of wear, no additional restricting undergarments needed.
With the above the knee hemline and the fun print, I am going to give this dress the weekend seal of approval. Perfect for an Autumn day bopping around town.
When wearing a busy print keep accessories simple and minimal. Always think about what part of your look you want to highlight, then accessorize with that in mind. Example- I wanted to highlight the fun print and lace sleeve of this dress, so I left my bracelets at home for the day. I don’t have bracelets fighting with the lace(getting caught in the delicate fabric) and I paired some simple black booties with the look so that the fun pattern can really shine through.
Other ways to style
As the weather continues to cool down, I would love to style this dress with a black duster vest, tights, and some boho chic booties. With the free spririt vibe this piece gives off, I would stray away from a structured riding boot.
How would you style this dress? Would you take it a little more structured or let your bohemian flag fly like I did?

This blog was supposed to go up yesterday but, it was my husbands birthday and our wedding anniversary so my blogging schedule got a little moved around. Date night out waits for no man! lol.
I am so excited to share some beautiful pieces from J.Jill with you! And wait for it….all of the looks I am sharing today are available in regular and plus sizes! J.Jill specializes in relaxed chic pieces that work great together or as separates. The quality shines through, and they carry XS-4X, and have a petite and tall section(can I get a hallelujah for the size inclusivity here!). What I really enjoy about these particular pieces is that they are distinctly autumn, each garment is simple and well made and gives the woman wearing them the chance to lend her personality to the pieces.
I have not styled a co-ordinate set before, and as I learned its really simple. Grab some fabulous shoes and a great bag and you are good to go! This is a sweater set, the skirt and top are the same knit fabric in a soft heather green. I love the length of this skirt, I am 5’6″ and midi skirts are either too short or too long on me. This particular skirt is the perfect midi length for me, and is one of the reasons this set is unique.
If you have been reading for awhile then you know I lead a super casual life. I don’t talk about work wear mostly because I never get the chance to actually wear “office appropriate” garments. These ponte pants are a great mix of comfort and office ready style. I styled them with a rayon blend peplum top that was a little bit snug across the bust(size up ladies and thank me later). This look would be really cute with the shirt untucked and some ballet flats, for a day at the office or in the classroom.
There really isn’t anything more versatile than a ponte knit dress, especially as we head into fall and winter. When I ordered this dress I couldn’t decide if it was an A-line fit or a swing fit, and really I still can’t decide LOL. It falls firmly in the in between, the weight of the fabric doesn’t allow it to billow the way a swing dress does, but the cut of the dress is universally flattering like a swing dress. The scarf was a gift from my hubby for christmas last year, and just happened to go PERFECTLY! Remember what I was saying earlier about J.Jill pieces? Each garment is quality and simple so that the wearer can let their own personality shine through. This dress is the perfect example of this. It has a luxe feel, but in a great color that goes with so much for Fall.
I will have more J.Jill pieces on the blog in the future, but you can look back on some fall posts from years past. HERE,HERE and HERE
This post was sponsored by J.Jill, all opinions are my own.
Raise your hand if you are a Target shopper! These days Target has become an institution for all things trendy, and it makes me so happy in my heart that they also apply so much thought to their plus size offerings!
I was shopping in my local Target a few weeks ago and was stopped in my tracks by this dress! The colors are so fricking vibrant and fresh. Side note- the photos on the Target website DO NOT do this piece justice. If you have been reading my blog for very long then you know that I gravitate towards one wonderful color(black). Its not very often that I get super excited about a bright floral dress, but this one just screams “WEAR ME ON A FALL DAY!!”
So let me paint this picture for you, hear I am giddily snapchatting my besties from this fitting room about this dress, we collectively decide its a keeper and by chance the fitting room is right next to the shoe section. Thats when I spotted these leopard booties, I MEAN COME ON. They are adorable, and just a little bit to much which is exactly what I like. Pattern mixing is always a yes for me, so naturally its leopard booties and floral dress. I love this outfit combo for an elevated weekend look.
I have been chatting up dark florals for Fall a bunch lately BUT this dress gets me out of the fashion corners that I back myself into. Lets talk about how to style this piece different ways. I will link the options below. 🙂
This dress is such a statement piece, with a small cold shoulder and higher neckline its very modest. So I would play up the sexy factor with some awesome strappy sandals and a masculine clutch.
The cold shoulder detail on this dress is very understated, but if you are concerned a denim jacket would pair so well with the coloring on this garment. I would grab some nude flats and be out the door.
Target has so many beautiful pieces right now in plus and regular sizes. I have even been finding home stuff lately that I just can’t leave the store without!!
As a plus size person, I used to be an outsider in fancy little boutiques that dot downtown areas across America. I would go in with the attitude that everything was going to be too small, and therefore irrelevant to me. I was so used to shopping in big chain stores that I didn’t know what I was missing out on.
It wasn’t until I was able to start shopping at boutiques that carried clothes in my size, did I realize how much a boutique shopping experience can benefit you. When shopping in a locally owned store you are able to really get to know the products because the sales staff will be much more knowledgeable about the clothing in the store. This can be for a couple of reasons, less inventory(which is not a bad thing) and likely the person helping you pick an item or style a look had a hand in that item coming to the store. A true boutique shopping experience is born out of customer service and the consumer(thats you and me) being able to connect with the product being sold.
Boutiques are what the owner makes it, and most shops are started because of a passion for whatever is being sold in the store. Thats what makes it so fun, each store is a reflection of the woman that loved fashion enough to start a business, maybe she loves vintage inspired pieces and wants to share them with you. Or maybe she loves denim and wants her customer to be able to experience quality jeans.
Whatever the reason, shopping a boutique that specializes in a niche that you love is a special experience. You will be able to find unique pieces, get help from a sales associate that truly knows the products, and support a local business that is likely owned by a female entrepreneur(girl power!).
If you have been following me for awhile then you know that I am a shopper. And being a plus size woman, most of my shopping consists of ordering from online retailers. And don’t get me wrong I love my online shops, but when it comes to buying statement pieces sometimes you need to try it on first, so you can adjust sizes, see if it will fit the way you think etc…
One of my go to boutiques in the Detroit area is Liz Louize, this is a plus size boutique with a special talent for keeping quality statement pieces in stock. Remember that blog post I wrote about how I always find the best pieces right before we leave? Yeeeahhh this was one of those skirts. I found this 20 dollar beauty on my way to the checkout lane, LOL. Pleats, and lace, ANNNDDDDD its black my favorite color! I wanted to style it in an elevated chic way, so I paired this lingerie-esque skirt with a velvet top and my favorite leopard clutch.
On my last trip to the store I found a Joseph Ribkoff top that I couldn’t resist, I love the soft white top with lace statement sleeves. This piece is so feminine, I styled it with a pair of black strappy heels and some ripped Good American jeans. I wanted to balance the feminine top with some edgier jeans and my favorite Target heels.
I never would have ordered these pieces from an online store, I would have passed right by both. But being able to shop in a boutique and feel the fabrics and see the drama these pieces bring firsthand had me purchasing both.
This week on Curls and Contours I wanted to share a post that I get questions about ALL THE TIME. This post is about “What I buy at Nordstrom” and how I shop smart at a major department store.
What do I shop for at Nordstrom?
I utilize Nordstrom for 2 areas of my wardrobe. Pants and Skincare. I do own tops/dresses/shoes from Nordstrom but their bottoms and skincare offerings have me coming back again and again.
I have to admit I am addicted to upscale denim, a few years ago I got into Paige jeans and the rest is history. I love a quality pair of jeans, and Nordstrom has a great online offering for Plus Size women. I purchase most if not all of my pants from Nordstrom because of their easy return policy, and their wide selection of super quality pieces. My favorite pant buys from Nordstrom are the Zella High Waist legging, and my Good American jeans. I wear my Zella leggings with EVERYTHING, from walking my dogs in the evening to dressing up for a night out. They are hands down the most versatile piece in my wardrobe. I think I own 4 pairs at this point(not included my printed ones LOL).
Here are my favorite Zella leggings right now, in plus and regular!!
I don’t talk a lot about my skin on the blog, and I would really like to change that. Let me tell you, my skin is THE WORST!!!! I have struggled for years with adult acne, and have quite a bit of scarring and pore issues. I am a faithful Nordstrom beauty counter girl, and here is why.
One day I was running some errands and happened to be in Nordstrom, at the time my skin was at an all time low, I had really dry patches, and a huge breakout of cystic acne along my jawline. Things were really really bad. I was stopped by an esthetician at the Clarins counter in Nordstrom, she wanted my to try her hand cream(which is amazing lol). We got to talking, and next thing I know she is giving me a mini facial and changing my life. I know that sounds crazy but its so beyond true. She talked me through why I was dry and patchy in areas and why my acne was out of control.
This Clarins esthetician explained to me that all the acne products that I was using on my skin was actually causing more acne because the oil in my skin could not balance out. She told me that instead of stripping my skin of oil and moisture, I needed to be adding moisture back to my skin(which at the time sounded like the craziest shit I had ever heard). She said that my skin cells were being stripped of all moisture every night and damaged by acne products, and that my body was sending lots of oil to my face because there wasn’t any. This is what was causing my breakouts, and the patchy dry areas were from the acne products.
I purchased a moisturizer from her that day, and she sent me home with samples of the rest of the Clarins line that she suggested for my skin. AND I was back in two weeks to buy it ALL. I started using the products that she sent me home with and within a week my skin was healing, and I honestly haven’t had a breakout since then. I have completely changed my skincare and makeup routine. I would still be living in adult acne hell if the Nordstrom Clarins esthetician hadn’t stopped me.
Here is the skincare that CHANGED MY LIFE!! From start to finish every night.
Shop with a purpose, its a big store and everything is gorgeous(its easy to go crazy LOL). GO in (online or in store) with what you are looking for in mind. I know that I love their pants and skincare, so when I am in need of those items I turn to Nordstrom.
It has been months since I have shared my weekend outfits!! During my workweek my clothes fall into the “Mom clothes” category, so on weekends and during my blog shoots I get to really play with my clothes! Today on the blog I am sharing 5 weekend outfits, and 4 things I am loving right now! Jacket | Leggings | Boots | Bag
The TV Show Ozark- Keith and I have been watching the Netflix original Ozark like crazy! We loved Breaking Bad, and this show has that same feel to it. A little dark, a little twisted but ultimately about a man that is willing to do anything for his family including break the law. We haven’t had “Cable” TV for years, its a money saver and we get plenty of entertainment from Netflix and Hulu!
2. Midcentury Industrial Home Decor- We are renovating our kitchen and I have become OBSESSED with home decor, its not something I share on the blog(I could, but I don’t think you are here for that lol). I am loving pretty much everything from West Elm, and have been doing a ton of research on concrete countertops and how to create an eclectic space that meshes old with new. If you have any home decor blogs that fit this criteria SEND THEM MY WAY!!
3. Low Heeled Booties- Last Fall I was all heeled booties ALL the time. I just could not get into the low heeled options. But this year, I have been super into what is being offered. I have two pairs that will be what I am wearing nonstop until December(when the real cold weather hits). Links HERE, and HERE for the exact pairs that I have been loving.
4. Cauliflower Mac and Cheese- Keith and I prefer to eat High Fat/Low Carb dinners, gluten in general is not really my friend. We both just feel better the next day when we follow this way of eating. I made some Cauliflower Mac and Cheese a couple of months ago and it has been a weekly meal since. We usually add extra veggies to the recipe, like onions and mushrooms and when Keith makes it he adds spices to make it hot!! Recipe link HERE
I collaborated on this post with Liz Louize. Today, is a great day to be a plus size babe in Michigan. Because today, a new boutique has opened in Royal Oak JUST FOR PLUS SIZE BABES!! Boom. I am going to be sharing a “Liz Louize store tour” on Curls and Contours with you! We will be taking a look inside Liz Louize and I will be featuring some of my favorite pieces from the store!
When I first entered this boutique, my eyes were immediately drawn to the FANTASTIC wallpaper that decorates the back wall of the store. On the wall there was fun art, and uniques cases with shoes and accessories. From there I really started to take a look around, and notice other subtle pieces of the store. Fun music playing in the background, a light sweet scent that wasn’t overpowering but was just “there.” As a plus size woman, I felt good, honestly it was one of those “These are my people” moments, I found myself wandering around the store touching things on each rack and thinking “This is for me, this will fit me.” To me the true test of a boutique is how the customer interprets the store within the first minute of being there. Is she going to walk in and go “Yep, I can see myself finding something here.” Or is she going to walk in, feel intimidated and overwhelmed. The Liz Louize crew set out to make every woman that enters the store feel at home, a very fabulous, pink, girly home. But at home. 🙂
Ok plus size babes, you know how when you go into a regular size boutique and you make a beeline for the accessories because you know that while the stuff is cute it will never fit. As I walked around and put my hands on each piece that the Liz Louize crew had hand picked for their store I was overwhelmed with this sense of freedom. I didn’t have to just look at the accessories, I could try things on and pick stuff out. I could try everything on if I wanted. And then girls, thats exactly what I did. I tried on EVERYTHING. I picked something from each rack, which let me tell you is ALOT! I would love to tell you that this was purely for journalistic purposes but thats NOT true lol. It was pure girly giddy excitement.
The store has so much inventory, there is something for everyone. As most of you know I am a shopper, I like shopping online, in department stores, in boutiques, at the mall, at the outlets. I love to shop. And it always surprises me when I walk into a store that has like 4 items to sell. Where is the variety? Where is the inventory? Especially plus size boutiques, or boutiques that carry both plus and regular sizes. Usually the plus section consists of 3 stretchy wrap dresses in 3 different shades of black. Its clear that the Liz Louize crew set out to defy those “standards.” Because this pretty little boutique had so many different options.
Do you need a dress for an upcoming vacation? What about jeans for fall? Do you need dress pants for work? OR a skirt for an upcoming wedding? Liz Louize has it. THEY HAVE IT. I even tried on a romper.
Ok, I know I am gushing.
Ok lets talk fitting room. It was basically a party. Liz(withwonderandwhimsy.com) and I were visiting the store together, and while we were there. There were other plus size babes shopping too! We all ended up in the fitting room together(not the same room LOL). It was so fun! Here is how it went; put something on, step out into the fitting room sitting area and have a chat about the fit, the color, where you would wear this or that piece. Talk about a confidence booster. Each woman was supportive, the staff was there to assist with size or different color options. It was a clothes party and everyone was a model. 🙂
Liz Louize is owned by the babes that own the plus size bridal boutique Bombshell Bridal, they have the experience and expertise on how to create a fantastic in store experience for each customer. Tucked into the fitting room area of the store, there are shape wear options and nighttime options. Literally NOTHING was left out, when they were stocking the store.
Now you are probably thinking. “Cool Anne, I am so glad you are a psycho about this store, but how can I go?”
I will be sharing Liz Louize updates every month, from sales and special events to my favorite pieces in store! If you follow me on instagram then you KNOW I am a huge believer in shopping local and supporting female entrepreneurs. I can not wait to share more from Liz Louize with all of you!
Hi lovelies! I am formatting this post a little different than my usual posts. I wanted to share the FFFWeek events that Liz(withwonderandwhimsy.com) and I chose to attend and what I wore to each event. If you are thinking of attending next year, I want to give a little bit of advice. When picking your outfits for each event just do you. Now that I am home I can say that I probably over thought it. Next time I attend, I will just do me and dress in pieces that make me feel my most confident and comfortable.
For the first event of the week, I chose to go with a flowy maxi from ASOS. I love the unique color combo for summer, and the pleated skirt. The kickoff event was held at a loft in SoHo in this sweet neighborhood lined with Italian restaurants and pretty store fronts. We had small bites and wine at the event, and got to meet up with other bloggers and influencers.
After the event Liz and I headed across the street to this TINY Italian place for some authentic Italian food. Don’t ask me the name of the place because I honestly have no idea. LOL
I received an invitation to the Fit For Me influencer event, and I STRUGGLED to pick an outfit. At the last minute I made a switch to my Society Plus Midington skirt, with a a lace crop top. This event was really fun, they had makeup touch ups, a runway event, and cocktails. Everyone was dressed in their signature style, and I was having my “Carrie Bradshaw” moment(full skirt, fancy bag, sky high heels).
Afterwards a bunch of us bloggers went for dinner, it was so fun to sit with 7 other women and just talk about the industry, our blogs, and our businesses. I felt like a “Real blogger” during dinner, this just fuels my fire to continue my work towards full time self employment.
I have a full recap of my experiences at the White Cruise, you can find that here.
Would I attend Full Figured Fashion Week again?
This year, Liz and I chose to attend the first half of the event. We had never attended before and didn’t know that the last half of the event is really where its at for bloggers and influencers. I would attend again, but for the last half of the event. Probably from Wednesday – Saturday. I am hoping to attend the Curvy Conference in NYC, and the upcoming Chicago Curvy Girl Conference!
I also have an outfit roundup up that is strictly my “off the clock” pieces that I wore touring around town, and to non FFFWeek events. That can be found here.
