I have been on a  search for the perfect skinny jean for years, and I have tried them all. Different brands, new styles, new jean “technology”, you name it I have given it a go. As a self proclaimed “Jeans girl’ I feel like my research has led me to a couple of insights that I try to stick with when I am shopping for skinny jeans.

  1. Curvy girls, buy the jeans that are made for curvy figures, that pocket placement and higher rise is sent from heaven down to us girls that can fill out a pair of jeans. TRUST.
  2. Don’t buy jeans without pockets, just don’t.
  3. Don’t be afraid to try the “Plus Size” jeans. I KNOW its hard sometimes to accept that your booty has grown, and its time to size up. Believe me I know, but again ladies. Fit really matters, and no one is going to be thinking “Is she wearing a 16W or just a 16” its hard to get that punk ass devil off our shoulders but good fitting jeans(clothing in general) is what can make your confidence and inner beauty shine through.

This particular pair of skinny jeans is from Democracy Denim, I scooped them up through Gwynnie Bee, and I will say just in case you are thinking it. I am a Gwynnie Bee affiliate(they advertise on Curls and Contours and I sometimes do sponsored work for them), BUT I actually pay every month for the service. These jeans did not come to me c/o, I put them in my virtual closet and patiently waited for them to arrive at my house.

They have a stretchy waistband, and this brand has their own jean technology called “Ab-solution”, basically the jean has been darted and cut to help keep things in place. Which lets be real what women doesn’t love that. Amiright? hahaha

They are stretchy and definitely stretched to fit my frame even more as I wore them. I will link some similar pairs to try in all sizes.

The above is EXACTLY what I am wearing. I have linked so affordable options in the post below, to get the same look at a better price point.

A year of blogging has gone by for me, when I look back on my first fall as the creator of Curls and Contours, I can’t help but laugh at some of the work I put out there for the world to see. My sense of style(and confidence) has continued to develop over the past year, and as I move into my second fall as the creator of Curls and Contours I really can’t wait to see what happens. Its these moments as a style blogger that are really something special. THIS DRESS is so gorgeous, its perfect for date night, brunch, a casual wedding reception etc… It is amazing to me how one beautiful piece of clothing can help your confidence sky rocket. For me these types of pieces help me focus in on the best parts of me, and not just physically but mentally too. Its like I can see the girl that I am on the inside when I wear this dress. Is that crazy?

With such a loud “Look at me” pattern, I knew that I needed to keep my accessories on the simple side. I went with a nude wedge, my new clutch :), and some tortoise sunglasses. I have talked about this style of dress before, a true wrap dress will cross over in front of you, and requires a belt to keep everything in place. This dress is a  wrap but I don’t need to do the wrapping, they stitched the front together so you can just pull the dress on (so easy) and then tie the belt where you would like.

A little fashion history

The original wrap dress was created by the iconic designer Diane von Furstenberg. In the 1970’s Diane von Furstenberg arrived in New York with a suitcase full of what would be known as one of the most iconic dress shapes of all time, the wrap dress. With a v-neckline and a soft jersey fabric this dress is universally flattering to women of all shapes and sizes. DVF was the creator, but luckily for the rest of the world, this dress has be created and re-created by designers for all types of bodies, and tastes.

This particular dress came from Curvaceous Boutique, a fabulous store located in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Curvaceous Boutique carries so many different wrap style dresses that I couldn’t count them all. The best part? They are made specifically for the plus size woman. No need to hide in black shift dresses ladies, a fun color pattern in a ultra flattering cut will always keep you comfortable and confident.

One of the best parts of blogging is being able to share beautiful things created by amazing real people.

I am always looking for a little extra something to add to an outfit, as a self proclaimed sunglasses and watch girl I am always without a necklace or earrings or both. I just can’t see myself with a different necklace everyday of the week and honestly that is the last thing I want to be thinking about when I am running out the door for work, I reach for my classic favorite pieces that go with everything and look perfectly in place with whatever I have on. I know that I will reach for the same pieces everyday because they have purpose or sentimental value, a small reminder of the person that gave me the piece, or a little way to keep my style personal and real for me.

Style tip: When you are trying to put some accessories together for an outfit, go big and small. An example would be big chandelier earrings, with a delicate gold bar necklace. Or druzy studs and a big statement necklace. Its all about balance, big earrings AND a big necklace can look overdone. I personally only wear bracelets on my watch wrist to create a stacking effect, (and to leave my writing hand free) 🙂

Being much more of a favorite few pieces girl I keep a some in constant rotation, because of that my accessories have to be quality. I am always on the lookout for jewelry that will work with any outfit and  fit seamlessly into my wardrobe. If I am spending more sparingly on really quality pieces that will last and last, then I don’t need to shop constantly for costume jewels that may only last a couple of wears.  A little 14k gold bar on a sparkly chain is the perfect trendy piece to add into my small cache of quality accessories. P.S. This bar is engraved with my monogram!(Soooo perfect)

This…Dress…I don’t have anything like it in my closet. I had admired it from afar for probably a month before I finally went ahead and ordered it. I have found as we move into the heat of July and August I am really enjoying having my legs out, as a self proclaimed “not a shorts” person, when summer starts to really warm up I need skirts and dresses that are shorter in length but still modest enough for work or the weekend. This little Eloquii dress fits the bill! I paired this piece with my favorite flatforms, and some bright earrings to set off the details. A new favorite for me, that I will be wearing again and again.

I have really been thinking lately about what it means to really listen to your body. I find that these thoughts pop up especially when I am not feeling well or something doesn’t seem quite right. For example, I have always had terrible skin(thanks dad) and even into my twenties my skin has never gotten truly clear. For the past 6 months or so I have been using a pretty vigorous beauty routine to manage my breakouts and cystic acne. And to be honest things have been going very well, my skin has been clearer these past months than it has been in years(YAY). But about a month ago, I started a new job and all of a sudden I have cysts all along my jawline. I knew that this skin problem was from stress, so I buckled down even further on my skincare routine and thought that things would improve. Well…they didn’t, so I started thinking and trying to listen to my body. My body is stressed, what can I do to alleviate that? I can eat better, for me thats more whole foods and no dairy. I can move more, taking the stairs, and yoga. I can get more sleep, which is a hard one for me I am a night owl.

I feel like as a bigger person, and as a curvy person I get pushed into the “She’s fat, so she obviously doesn’t care about herself” category and this is not the case. I am a bigger person because that is my genetics, just because I am bigger doesn’t mean that I have the excuse not to take care of myself. To all of my curvy girls, being big isn’t an excuse to not eat well, and get enough sleep, and move your body. Being naturally bigger doesn’t give you a free ticket to treat your body like shit. Its important to remember that we only get one body, and when we feel like hell its because we aren’t listening to ourselves. I challenge you to do one good thing for your body today. It might be going on a walk with your dog after dinner, or having a salad for lunch, maybe getting into bed at 10 tonight instead of 1 or 2.

I had a little Maurice’s adventure this past weekend, I pulled one of my usual “I will wear this out” stunts and from there the day just got better and better. My husband and I were on a road trip to a wedding(I wore that amazing CB dress) and we decided to stop and do some shopping around. I picked up this fun top in the 24/7 fabric and I went back last night and got 3 more tops lol.

We shopped and then went to lunch, where I promptly had two margaritas before we shot this look…oops It was a blast, and I have just loved this fabric all week. I am sure you will be seeing more of this on the blog.

One year ago today I started Curls and Contours. I can not believe how much I have grown in one year, as a person and as a blogger. My confidence in myself has never been better, I have found that letting go of constantly trying to improve myself according to what other people think has allowed me the freedom to just like me for me. This year has not been the easiest, I struggled and had to face some personal demons that I didn’t know ran so deep within me. I stood up for myself, and I worked to overcome some long standing personal pain from years of self hatred fueled by unachievable goals and a childhood dominated by dieting and viewing myself as not good enough. I can’t say that I am over it yet, I can’t say that I will ever be truly over it. But I wouldn’t have gotten through all of that without my blog, and the community of people that I have found through blogging.

I got right with the fact that I got a degree, and then changed my mind after all was said and done. I have reached for happiness this past year, and while I think I will always be reaching I can say that I am a hell of a lot closer than I was when I started this blog. I am not perfect, and I never will be. My husband and I are working as a couple to envision a future where we have everything we want. I am working to free myself of the pressures that I feel in life, from the outside and from within. My blog has helped me to do just that.

Thank you so much for following along, or if you are here for the first time welcome. This is a blog for the curvy girl that wants it all. Thats me and its you too!

Love,

Anne

So excited to be kicking off boutique month with the most comfortable maxi dress from Curvaceous Boutique. I want to wear this dress all the time its that comfortable, and full disclosure I baked oatmeal raisin chocolate chip cookies before we shot this look and I probably ate 4 of them(can you say food baby haha) and this dress was completely figure flattering and easy to wear post cookies. Like next time the hubby and I go for Mexican food, this dress will be what I wear. lol.

I don’t typically reach for sexy pieces of clothing, and honestly when I picked it out I thought that it looked amazing on the model but wouldn’t look like that on me. I think that maybe that is because for so long I was trying to wear clothing made for smaller people. Wearing pieces that are made for people with curvy bodies really changes the way you look at yourself, this dress highlights my best features and I feel powerful, sexy, and safe when I wear it. I am not a curvy fashion blogger that believes in dressing to look “thin” or “smaller” BUT dressing in clothing that is cut for my body type has an overall positive effect on the inside and outside.

First of all, I KNOW I am PALE AF. I am one of those people that can’t hold a tan to save their life, and burns easily. I will eventually have a tiny bit of color by the last week of August, then summer will be over so basically its an uphill battle from here. So learn to enjoy pale Anne because she is not going ANYWHERE.

I am so excited to be introducing a three part series of posts reviewing LuLaRoe products! In each post I have styled something different from LuLaRoe, I will be reviewing the products honestly and linking out to where you can find LuLaRoe!

So lets dig in! LuLaRoe is a network based marketing company that empowers women to create their own businesses and help others to dress in comfortable current clothing. Named after the founders granddaughters this brand is taking busy women by storm! Known for their signature “buttery” soft leggings LuLaRoe has much to offer the busy 2016 woman. LuLaRoe carries clothing for women of ALL sizes.

I selected the Amelia dress specifically in a color that I don’t usually pick because I wanted to challenge myself a bit. The cut of the Amelia dress is UNIVERSALLY FLATTERING! Stretchy fabric, meets hand set pleats and hidden pockets, with a flattering knee length hemline. This style looks good on anyone, an exposed zipper in the back adds a little unexpected detail to love. Depending on how you play with accessories this dress can take you from date night out, to church on Sunday. I found this dress to run true to size, I am wearing an XL and it was a perfect fit. My favorite aspect of this dress is the pleats and hidden pockets, I found myself just tucking my hands into the pockets just for the fun of it, and the pleats give the whole dress this “Party” feel that is so fun.

HOW TO BUY LULAROE

Because LuLaRoe is a network marketing company, you can not simply jump on LuLaRoe.com and buy any item you want. You need to hook up with a LuLaRoe consultant that has lots of product. LulaRoe only makes 1000 pieces in each fabric/pattern. So many times you may not be able to find something in an exact pattern/style, thats why working with a knowledgeable consultant is so important she can help you with fit, patterns and styles. Are you on Facebook? Joining your consultants Facebook(LuLaRoe by Mal Shopping Page) group is a super easy way to shop product.

Just a quick roundup blog linking some of my recent Instagram outfit posts! I get questions all the time about what I am wearing, and where I find some of my pieces. I am so guilty of sharing selfies and my daily outfit details on my Instagram, more than my Facebook. With these types of posts, you can shop my looks all in one place. 🙂

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned in passing (I must have blacked out or something) to my husband that I would like to jogging with him sometime(he is one of those annoying people that loves running…I know, gross). Well now he has been reminding every freaking day that I said that, EVERY DAY. So my attempts at dodging him and my excuses for not doing couples workouts have finally run out. So…I need tips, are you a jogger? I am a total girl about sports and exercise, I am a power walking, hiking, horseback riding, dancing in my living room girl. Are there any tricks that I can try to help ease into this whole “Jogging” thing.

Just a heads up, I don’t want to lose my curvy shape or be smaller than my current size 14. I love myself, and I have come way to far in my self acceptance journey to even think about losing my curvy shape. In an effort to love my body, I need to move it more.

Cropped Thoughts.

A couple of months ago, the internet was ON FIRE over a comment that Oprah Magazine had made about crop tops. I never jumped on that band wagon because I didn’t own any crop tops. I agree with the idea that it doesn’t matter what size you are all styles should be accessible to all people, but I didn’t have a crop top to proudly display on my curvaceous body so I just kept my nose out of it. My husband always teases me about dressing like a grandma. But you know men, he would prefer it if I wore mini skirts and tight white t-shirts(sans bra) everyday. So I take his opinion on my clothing with a grain of salt(p.s he reads all my blog posts haha). So naturally in true Anne style, I would find a crop top that I love and it would be in the form of a chunky knit turtleneck sweater.

This post is about doing the opposite of what most women do these days, throw on some leggings and a long tunic style top and go so many women embrace the cover it all up trend a little to much(myself included). This post is about choosing an outfit that is going to show off your assets and dare I say it, show off that waistline. Cropped style tops come in wide variety of styles, this is a trend that is back again for this coming spring and summer. As this trend settles in, more lines and brands will offer cropped styles. This season is a great time to try it out!

For my cold weather girls, cropped turtlenecks are ON SALE!! So its not to late to order one and see what you think.

Here are a few of my favorites!

Currently the snow is falling but all I can think about is Spring. I am sooooo ready for a real permanent thaw(not these bs fake spring days we have been having), spring trends are emerging, and it seems time to shed some layers. Who else is ready for tulips, bright colors, and sunshine? I want to ride my horse outside again, and show some ankle without fear of frost bite. One of the trends that I am still loving and doesn’t seem to be going anywhere is distressed denim. For the curvy girl this trend seems to just be coming around, finding pieces at an affordable price can be somewhat hard to come by. When PinkBlush contacted me about a collaboration I was so pleased to see that they had some options for distressed denim in their inventory. When I am ordering from a boutique I always order one size up from my usual, 9 times out of 10 I am happy with this decision. For these particular skinnies, I think I would have been good with my usual size, but in my book having your clothes a little big is never a bad thing. Having these skinnies a little big, gave them great relaxed feel that I actually don’t have in my closet right now. They are definitely more of a straight fit on me(being that they are a little big), versus a skinnier fit through the ankle. I will wear these now with booties, and in the spring with flats, sandals, and sneakers.

PinkBlush offers so much more than just plus size stuff, they offer a variety of sizes and are known for their fashion forward maternity wear. They offer cute dresses for women of all shapes and sizes!

OH…I just remembered when I used to wear peep toe wedges all the time. When it was summer and beautiful. My sad little wedges, they will see the world again soon.
