Finally some winter weather! Faux Fur is having a moment this winter, and I am LOVING IT! Scarves, vests, jackets, gloves. This is a cozy trend that is easy to try and so chic.
I am in the market for a new down coat, I love my trusty old down coat, but its OLD like 6 years old, and the zipper is giving out, and its OLD and basically I just want a new one. This one was a gift from my mother, when I started college I needed a LONG down coat to trek across campus in. Now that I am free from College I think I can invest in a new coat.
I don’t truly consider the holidays over until my tree is down and the last bulb is safely packed away in the basement. The day has finally come and my home has returned to its original state. Curls and Contours can now get back to business.
The Michigan weather has been unseasonably warm, so naturally I have been forgoing a bulky coat and layering up in different ways. This includes but is not limited too, vests, coatigans, and layering sweaters. I LOVE layering sweaters and button down shirts together, I know that it might not be the most flattering look for the curvier girl. BUT I don’t CARE. I love layering and I love sweaters and I love them together.
I have been on the hunt for a beanie type hat that would flatter my very round face. I started the season with zero winter hats, and I now have TWO. I just dream of being one of those Pinterest girls that wear amazing hats and sunglasses all winter. I have found that with my round face and my curls, I need a beanie that fits loose, so I don’t smash my curls, and my face doesn’t puff out under a very tight hat(lol, but seriously).
This whole look just has that something that I really love about winter dressing.
What is it about sparkly things that just make women fall in love, I LOVE sparkly things, jewelry, accessories, tops you name it. I took a fashion risk with this skirt, I scoured Pinterest and obsessed over sequin skirts until I landed on one that I thought I could make work for me. If you follow me at all you know that I am a pretty strict dark bottoms girl, I don’t really ever reach for anything that is going to highlight my “Assets.” So I landed on this little skirt, and big shocker its from Nordstrom(you know my favorite place). But when I got it, it was painfully long and matronly(if thats possible for a sequin skirt). So I had it hemmed by my wonderful Aunt and costume maker extraordinaire. She took off enough skirt to make me an infinity scarf. HA.
Now if you are thinking about putting this outfit together for yourself. Which I highly encourage, so cute. Here are a couple of tips. which I learned through trial and error, and discouraging looks from my husband.
Make sure your skirt is a flattering length FOR YOU. Not everyone wants to rock a mini skirt, and when you are talking about having a sparkly ass, the length and fit HAS GOT TO BE RIGHT.
Whatever flannel you choose, it has to be on the fitted side. I tried on two other flannels and both were out because they were too baggy. My shape was lost, and the whole look seemed unbalanced.
Wear jewelry that you love and are comfortable with. You definitely need something, but it doesn’t need to be over the top. I like big jewelry so I went with a statement necklace AND statement earrings. If thats not your thing, no worries.
Its Christmas Eve, if you are preparing for a family get together over the next 3 days(I know I am) and you don’t have a sequin skirt. Don’t sweat it, try something that you might deem a fashion risk. Rock those skinny jeans you have in the back of the closet, grab that blouse that you think might be a little over the top.
I stumbled across this dress while shopping Nordstrom online a month ago and I fell in love with the coloring and the high low style. I grabbed it up on sale, and was surprised how thin the fabric was. Still flattering and fall/winter(ish) the search began for some accessories to take this dress into winter.
So l fell in love with this dress from Curves Avenue, and I decided to style it twice. I KNOW what you are thinking, fashion bloggers don’t style dresses twice. But here is the thing, I am a real girl and real girls wear things over and over again. So Swing dress round two AND GO!
My last post featured this dress in a very diva glam way. I wore a faux fur vest, some statement sunnies, and leather gloves. In this post I am featuring the same swing dress, necklace, and boots. With different accessories this look has more of a polished feel to it.
Also, this Cape Jacket is AMAZING! So fun, and comfortable. Just throw it on and you are instantly chic. I linked some other cape options below. They are all the rage for Winter.
I can’t decide which I like better! Which one do you like? Diva Glam or Polished Holiday.
What are you wearing to your next Holiday gathering? I hate buying a dress and only wearing it once and then never again. So I am always searching for dresses that I can wear over and over again, dresses that can easily be fixed up for a night out or dressed down with some riding boots and a cardigan.
This dress from Curves Avenue is perfect for the Holidays(or anytime really). You can dress it up with some booties and faux fur or throw on some riding boots and a cardigan for Holiday shopping or work.
YASSSSS! Its Christmas time, and I FINALLY have all my decorations up. With the help of my fabulous family I did a major overhaul on my Christmas decor. I wanted to change my Christmas decor theme from “Inherited from my Mother” to “Glam Cabin.” Now, this new theme includes, plaid, glitter, and fur. Basically my 3 favorite things, to wear and decorate with! Of course I pinned 1000 things on Pinterest and carefully curated a vision for my Christmas decor. But what really is the point of all the home decor if you aren’t going to have something fabulous to wear with it on Christmas morning?
What are you wearing on Christmas morning? Have you thought about it? Well, if you haven’t then think about a cute slouchy sweatshirt and some leggings. Every year, I wish and wish I had some cute and cozy little outfit to wear on Christmas morning, and every year I am a loser and I end up in some lame ass PJ’s that aren’t cute and don’t look festive AT ALL. Well this year, is going to be different because I have a slouchy Christmas sweatshirt from Dentz Denim. I am not going to be lame, I am going to be freaking adorable.
This cute little top would also be complete perfection with skinnies and some boots to go holiday shopping, or to pick that perfect Christmas tree. Do you have an ugly sweater party coming up? This slouchy sweatshirt would be perfect for that, maybe with some Ponte pants, and some booties. Just enough sass, and so comfortable. Rock it girl!
Its the Holiday season! Do you have a fashionista in your life that needs a cozy outfit for Christmas morning? I am not a themed PJ girl, but there is just something about Christmas morning that makes a girl want cozy knits, and Santa themed sweatshirts.
This little gift guide has all the right pieces to create your perfect Christmas morning look! Full disclosure I ordered the leggings for myself already. 🙂
What is not to love about a poncho, easy to wear, super cute and so on trend right now. A poncho is a great way to add another layer to your look while amping up the cozy factor. I am sure I have shared in the past my love of cozy looks.
When styling a Poncho, you need to balance the loose fit of the poncho with fitted clothing underneath. That can come in the form of some leggings and boots, or a shear top and skinny jeans. A poncho can be the perfect piece of light outerwear to throw on when Christmas shopping, when I head into the Mall I hate wearing my big bulky coat, but its to cold to go without something. A poncho is the perfect piece of outerwear that will keep you looking chic, and warm enough to get in and out of the Mall during the Holidays.
Ahh, this pink is so so gorgeous, its the perfect Marie Antoinette meets Mean Girls pink. A fantastic shade on virtually anyone, AND its so in for Fall and Winter! I really happened to stumble upon this entire outfit, you know how sometimes things just really come together? That is this outfit for me, the bag was an LA Neiman’s find, the Jeans are classic leggings, booties are last year from Dr. Scholls of all places, the scarf is a last minute I need a scarf and I happen to be at TJ Maxx find, and the top was a Nordstrom Rack 80% grab. IN FACT I have the same tunic top in green and gray(which I did pay full price for…boo).
In case you happen to be wondering. MY pumpkins and fall stuff is still out, because I don’t start Christmas until AFTER Thanksgiving. So. There.
Back to this pink, super easy and glam to pair with creams and whites. Pastel pink is the new neutral for me. From sunnies to tunics, its easy to wear but just lends that little extra “I am sassier than I look” vibe. Perfect for every woman I know.
