I am going to put this out there. Quality leggings are 100% WORTH IT! Especially if you are curvy, just go for it get a good pair that are made of the right material that aren’t see through and that are meant to be worn for active purposes (even if you are only going to wear them to run errands). Leggings that are made for active purposes are-
1. Not see through.
2. Don’t get holes.
3. Hide cellulite (thats right ladies).
This little outfit works for me on multiple levels, I work out in this outfit, I hike in this outfit, I can be seen out and about during the day in it (with a longer top to keep my cheeks covered), AND I will be packing all of these items for my travels this summer.
I have ONE hard and fast rule about leggings as pants that I believe keep you classy and on trend. This rule applies to women of all sizes BUT if your are bootylicious(like myself) pay really close attention.
1. If you are not working out and just wearing leggings as pants for the day. COVER YOUR ASS UP! Wear a top that is tunic length or dips lower in the back to keep your cheeks covered. We have all seen that girl at the supermarket or the mall that has see through leggings on. Not cute.
Side Note- As women are we obligated to let another woman know her leggings are see through? I always want too and then I chicken out.
I love a doing my nails. I LOVE it, I change my nails once a week, and its something that I really enjoy doing on a Sunday evening. I sit down with a glass of wine and take a few minutes to indulge in myself and do something just for me. Its all fun and games until, I bump my wine glass or smudge my polish…And then I am PISSED, I have to start all over with paint and the whole drying process is halted until I can get that one little spot correct. I seriously have every fast drying nail product under the sun. The spray, the drops, the polish, the little fan…I have even used my hair dryer to get my nails dry, because once I am doing painting them I am ready to be done with the whole process. I want instant dry so I can move on to what I have next on my mind. This NEVER works. NEVER.
Enter Nail Wraps, have you tried them? Put them on, instant manicure. No wait, no dry time…Possible perfection right? I have done the Sally Hanson wraps, and the Essie wraps too. But I always am left feeling more than a little disappointed. They are expensive its a ONE time use for ONE package and once you open them you are donezo, use it or lose it. Then half the time they don’t stick or they don’t have the pattern or color I was looking for.
I had the opportunity to try Jamberry recently, and I cant tell you how fun it was (actually I CAN tell you and I am right now lol). What set this product apart from the other wraps on the market is the personal application experience you receive from the consultant, you actually get to have a conversation with someone about the product and talk to them about how to properly apply and get the most out of the product. I would compare this experience to going to the Beauty counter at the mall(or Sephora, or Ulta), you don’t just walk up to the counter and pick a random product that you have never used and know nothing about and take it home and TRY to see if it works. Seriously don’t do that, talk to the expert that WANTS TO HELP YOU REALLY BAD! Leslie the Jamberry consultant that I am working with was so helpful and fun to talk to. SHE is what made me love this product.
Not to mention all the designs and options the company offers. I had a hard time picking what I wanted to try out!
Side Note- Hand Modeling? Really effing hard, sorry for the awkward pictures in advance, remember I am still new at this.
What did you do over the 4th of July? I spent the day at the lake, sunning, playing in the sand and water. In recent years showing your American pride through dress has become very popular. I happen to be a BIG fan of this trend. Its so fun to dress in red, white and blue and celebrate Independence Day!
The most classic and the easiest way to incorporate American pride into your wardrobe is start with just red, white and blue. You don’t need to go crazy with American Flag skinnies and a star spangled top. Keep it simple, white pants, blue tank, red accessories or dark wash skinnies, red t-shirt and a white statement necklace or scarf.
This year I went with my favorite maxi and hat that I wear all the time. That I have blogged about before because I am obsessed. You know the one.
I don’t even need a new picture of this dress because this is pretty much exactly what I looked like lol. I know wow, big variety fashion blogger. When it works don’t fix it right?
Photo cred- ME Promotions
My lake look over the 4th and pretty much anytime I go out on the water. Really the lake = ‘Merica to me lol.
Its time to get real about some pants that EVERY (curvy, stick, whatev) woman should own… Palazzo pants.
What are Palazzo pants? I had that same question last year when I first started seeing these stretchy soft printed pants online. A Palazzo pant is like a yoga pant, stretchy, forgiving, and easy to wear. The only difference being that Palazzo pants are loose fitting, they aren’t tight on you AT ALL. Seriously they feel like butter as pants, I know that sounds nuts but they do. These pants are HOT HOT HOT right now, you can find them anywhere! Today on C&C I am featuring one pair in particular that works for the more bootylicious girls like myself. But I am going to hook you up with links for all different patterns and styles.
You can wear them dressed up with wedges and a nicer top (like me in these pictures!), or with flat sandals and a jean jacket (like me last week!) haha
Also…Are these pants black or blue? Serious debate has gone down over this. I am firmly on the blue team, but OTHER PEOPLE (my husband) say they are black. Whatever, they are my cute butter pants and they could be rainbow for all I care!
This outfit(pants and top) came from DRESS BARN! I really am loving that store right now. EVERYTHING is affordable, and they offer sizes for curvy girls! I feel like Dress Barn has gotten shoved to the back burner and I don’t know why. Their stuff is cute, on trend, and affordable! Whats not to love?
And these photos, we did them on the road in front of my home…And I was so afraid I was going to get hit by a car that some pretty funny shots turned out lol.
These earrings were 1.50 at Kohls 3 years ago…They are WAY over the top and I love them, but I don’t think they exist for sale anymore, I linked something similar 🙂
Palazzo Pants for the Curvy girl-
Dress Barn – The EXACT ones that I have! Also you can find these in store!
When I purchased this dress I wasn’t sold on it. I was shopping specifically for an occasion dress and I couldn’t get happy with anything. I shopped Dress Barn on a whim and I was pleasantly surprised by the selection, I got this dress and a pair of Palazzo pants( my first pair, coming to a blog post near you!).
Usually I have a hard and fast rule about shopping. If I don’t LOVE it and instantly want to put it on and wear it out of the store then its not coming home with me. This dress made the cut because I KNEW I had accessories that would make this dress an OUTFIT.
When you are a curvy girl, you need to invest in a fashion uniform. Shop for good quality basics and then mix in fun trendy pieces and accessories. That way your wardrobe fits you, and you are never without SOMETHING that is going to work for your body OR be able to make something work for your body(through accessories), like this dress.
The dress on its own is ALRIGHT, but with the right jewelry, purse and shoes its ADORABLE! Do you ever buy something with the intention of letting the accessories make the outfit?
Joggers, have you tried them? Let me tell you RIGHT NOW that this new trend is AMAZEBALLS.
Now you may be thinking Anne what the hell is a “Jogger?” Joggers are pants that are gathered at the hem (Like your Grandpas sweatpants). Except NOW they aren’t just sweatpants, they come in a million different patterns and styles. They are effortlessly on trend and are insanely comfortable. Be prepared to get some comments from the men in your life (my older brother had something to say, and Keith had an opinion) on these pants. My answer to their comments was…I don’t dress for you, I dress for myself. AND today MYSELF wore these pants. 🙂
This particular pair came from ASOS Curve, and I seriously wear them EVERY time they are clean. I have worn them with sandals, wedges, and moccasins. I have worn them with a black shirt, white shirt, chambray. I have worn them with tons of jewlery, just the basics or none at all. I wear them hair up, hair down, hair dirty, or hair brown (just kidding on that last part). I think I just had a Dr. Seuss moment haha.
This weekend Keith and I went to a family wedding just north of Cincinnati OH in a little town called Hamilton. We left Saturday morning and knew that we were going to take our time getting down to the wedding because we love a road trip. We live just north west of Ann Arbor MI, so the drive was going to be a solid 4 hours for us. The only stop that I had planned was one at the Cincinnati Premium Outlets (P.S. You should ALWAYS stop at an outlet when on a road trip). We were leaving the rest of our little adventures up to a whim.
Big shock that my husband wanted to stop at Cabelas (which is only a 45 minute drive from our home). I was down to go look around, so we went for it. It is widely known in our area that this store is a BIG draw for tourists. So it can be fun to go and see all the displays and aquariums that they have in the store, NOT to mention the clothes and shoes!
This is part of a GIANT display of animals at the center of the store. They call the display “Conservation Mountain.”
Coming up in just a few short months I will be traveling to the West Coast (LA, Monterray, San Francisco, Telluride) for sometime. This vacation is going to be a VERY physically active one, and I have been internet stalking quite a few items for sometime. LUCKILY for me Cabelas carried what I was looking for, and I was able to make some purchases towards my vacation wardrobe!
Lets talk hiking clothes for the girl in between. I have been searching high and low for the right hiking apparel for about a month, I have been really trying to get settled on my fashion uniform for this trip. What is a fashion uniform you ask? A fashion uniform is when you wear or pack similar clothing styles so that you have A. Lots of mix and match choices and B. One look that does vary but the same central style pieces stay consistent. For the girl in between, a fashion uniform is a GOOD thing. It means that you know what works for you and you have a sense of how to dress yourself comfortably and appropriately.
Ok back to my trip. I KNOW that I am going to be walking/hiking ALOT, so I have been looking for bottoms, a rain jacket, hiking boots, and a rugged bag. I have almost ordered all of these items multiple times, but I just couldn’t make myself pull the trigger. ENTER Cabelas a dropped in my lap opportunity to try these items, and buy some items to break the ice and get me going. I tried, a dress, cropped leggings, and two pairs of shorts to start. ALL of which I would have gladly taken home with me. BUT my need for bottoms was not that great so I only purchased one pair of shorts.
1. The quality and the warrantee on any of their products is fantastic.
2. They are a basic black short, which fits my fashion uniform for the trip.
3. People in Michigan are OBSESSED with anything North Face.
4. This company carries up to a size XL which is me so, they actually FIT!
As I was walking out of the hiking section I noticed some summer rain jackets. I grabbed the Columbia Switchback II jacket and walked out. Sometimes you just have to grab and go! I got the pink which is very fitting for me, and I grabbed the size XL, I threw it on in the parking lot and it was a perfect fit! Enough room for layers but not so baggy that I couldn’t wear it on its own.
When we stopped at the Outlets, I had a specific plan to shop for Fathers day gifts, what I didn’t plan on was the Columbia store. I was able to price check my rain jacket (I got a great deal!) and shop around for more active bottoms. I had been thinking for awhile that I would like to try out an active skirt, and at Columbia they had a wide array to choose from. I ended up purchasing a black basic skort, that will work for everyday wear and light hiking (YAY me!).
