ITS HERE. ITS HERE! I finally did it, I took the plunge and added a home decor tab on the blog. Keith and I have been working on our home since the day we moved in a year ago, and finally after a year of work on our home we are getting to a point where we are ready to share it with all of you! I thought I would start with my office space because its where I spend the most time. We just finished up this space a month ago. And I am still working on getting wall decor, BUT I have been able to take this space from dark and dank to a bright feminine space that still feels organic to our home!
Our home was originally built in 1875, and is made from Fieldstone. A year and a half ago I started looking for a new home, we were outgrowing our first house and were ready to move closer to civilization. Our previous ranch house was 30 minutes just to the highway, now we are 5 minutes from a downtown area and we LOVE IT! The former owners of the house had done a TON of renovations, but there were still a few glaring problems with the house. The office space AND the kitchen(which I will be sharing soon!). The office space served as a 4th bedroom for the previous owners, which might be an option for us down the road. For now it serves as Curls and Contours Headquarters! When we moved in the office was the last room in the house with wood paneling(YUCK) floor to ceiling this room was dark and dated, so I just closed the french doors and forgot about it.
Then when we decided that I could take the plunge and go full time as a free lancer, this drab space needed a transformation! So with A LOT of arm twisting Keith agreed to whitewash the paneling and paint the ceiling(yes the ceiling was wood paneling too).
My husband had taken over this room as his space to collect random things, from his crossbow to his poker set it was hanging around. Above is a picture I took straight from the listing of the house, and below are pictures of the room in transition. I was able to decorate this room for less than 500 dollars from start to finish. Check out how dark the rug looks in the picture on the left, that is a reflection of how dark the room was. Now compare it to the photo on the right, painting the paneling brightened up the space DRAMATICALLY!
I knew that I wanted to use this space to photograph product, and I wanted to make sure the room felt organic to the rest of the house, so whatever I decorated in the office would also need to go with rest of my decor. I purchased my desk at Costco two years ago for 100.00 dollars, my purple stool for 45.00 at Home Goods last year, and the accent chair was a hand me down from my Aunt when we moved into the house. I shopped Wayfair, At Home, and Ikea for the rest of the decor in the room. I found Wayfair to be an excellent place to shop for my office chair and rug. I went to At Home for the mirror and some wall hangings, and shopped a local nursery for the Fiddle Leaf plant. Once the room was white I had the freedom to play with colors. AND my hubby admitted that it looked much better white! Scroll to the bottom for links!!
Have you ever been brave enough to paint wood paneling? What do you think of the new home decor section of the blog?
