Happy Friday! I have spent most of the day cleaning and organizing my closet BECAUSE IT WAS OUT OF CONTROL. But thankfully I am done with that and I can sit down to write a quick blog post. Lately I have been layering denim NONSTOP, the weather here in Michigan is cold, but I am so over my winter coat. So I have been wearing my Who What Wear Denim Jacket nonstop.
So I thought I would share how I like to mix both a denim jacket AND a jeans. Here are my 3 tips for rocking the double denim trend.
Tip #1 – Make sure your denim pant and jacket are two different washes.
This is probably a tip that you have heard before, but I am going to repeat it because it really is true. If you want to avoid the Canadian tuxedo look then make sure your jeans and your denim jacket are two different washes!
Tip #2 – Keep your accessories interesting.
When I am styling a double denim look I like to add fun interesting accessories, for example my new Target slides, or my thrifted brooches. This adds interest to an otherwise simple look. I picked up these two brooches while out thrifting, and these slides at Target a couple of weeks ago. They add both texture and depth to a simple denim jacket and skinny jean.
Tip #3 – Add a “soft” fabric to your look to soften the structured look of denim.
My last tip for styling a double denim look is to add a soft top or accessory(think a square scarf). Denim is traditionally a very stiff fabric, this look can be overpowering if you are not careful. By adding a soft polyester top, or silk scarf you balance out your look.
