Happy Friday! Today on the blog I am sharing more details on my first experience with lash extensions. I went in two weeks ago and had my first lash appointment with Brie at Brushwork! I met Brie while making tapestry at Thistle and Bess this past spring, while we were learning how to weave Brie and I got chatting about our careers she filled me in on her Lash business and I told her all about blogging and consulting. I reached out to Brie a few weeks ago and asked if we could collaborate on a beauty post and she agreed! In todays post I am sharing the process of getting lash extensions, and how exactly it works! Along with lots of pictures and details that you may not have known before.
If you book a full set lash appointment with Brushwork and mention the blog you will receive 30$ off a full set of eyelash extensions!!

Ok now for what you really came to this blog post for! The info on how exactly you get lash extensions and what the process is.
Step ONE – Research and find a lash specialist that you like and can trust. Brie at Brushwork is a licensed cosmetologist, she is well versed on the sterilization of tools, and keeps the lash and microblading room clean and sterile. NOT all lash specialists are cosmetologists, so do your research! I have the peace of mind with my eyes and face knowing that Brie is knowledgable on how to keep everything clean.
Step TWO – When you are booking or after you arrive for your appointment, have a good chat with your specialist. Fill her in on your lifestyle, makeup routines and what you want out of your new look. I wanted lashes that would help my eyes pop more in photos and make me feel more confident without makeup. So Brie crafted my lashes to fit those needs, not everyone has photos taken of them on the regular so they may not be interested in the volume and length I was.
Step THREE – Once you have a lash plan in place, its time to get started! Lashes take time, and patience is key. So lay back, relax and enjoy some quiet rest time while your lash artist does work. Brie places a collegian eye mask under each eye, so she can have a clean, easy canvas to work on your upper lashes. She sometimes uses a little tape to lift the eye lid, and when she is going through the under lashes, she may lift the extensions with tape to help build out.
Step FOUR – Once the mask is in place, its just a very relaxing waiting game. Brie takes the extensions and places them one by one on your natural lashes. I selected black lashes, but you can ask your lash specialist about different colors. The lash glue is black, and the extensions are black so the end result looks like long, glam, mascara. All. The. Time.
Step FIVE – For the first 24 hours after you get lashes Brie suggests avoiding water so the glue can really bond to your natural lash. And then after that, at night you lightly clean them(with her awesome maintenance kit) and brush them out with a dry mascara wand(also provided by Brie). I brush mine after cleaning at night, and then in the morning after my makeup is finished.
Commonly asked Questions
Can you feel the lashes after they are in place? NO! They feel like natural lashes, and do not feel like they have any extra weight! Before I got lashes from Brushwork, I was concerned that they would feel heavy like strip lashes. AND GUESS WHAT! They don’t feel like anything.
Does it hurt getting the extensions? NO. The experience with Brie is completely chill and relaxing. You can feel her working on your lashes but its no bother.
How quickly will they start to fall out? This was a major question for me, and one that I asked at my appointment. Brie shared that the lash extensions shed with your natural lashes. So some may come out as soon as the next day, depending on how often/much you shed hair.
Can I wear mascara with my lashes? This was another question I had, before extensions I had grown so used to wearing a ton of mascara that I couldn’t image going without. BUT SERIOUSLY. You don’t need mascara, the lashes give you the length and volume needed. I still wear mascara on my bottom lashes when I am “going out” but I don’t feel like I need it anymore.
