I am SO HAPPY to share that our kitchen renovation is complete! I love a good before and after, and wanted to be sure this ended up on the blog! After our house fire in September(22) we decided to take the time we would not be living in the house and gut our kitchen and install a completely new one. We wanted to do this renovation on a budget, so we opted to keep the appliances that we could and take the rest of the kitchen out. One thing that we did love about the kitchen was the footprint. The peninsula shape worked perfectly with the house, so we knew that whatever style of kitchen we did install again would follow a similar footprint.
The kitchen that we took out was original to the house, and firmly stuck in the 1980’s, the pink backsplash and countertops were worn out, and the lower cabinetry was especially worn down. The softit that the upper cabinets bumped up against also aged this kitchen tremendously. With all of that in mind we decided to install a light and bright kitchen, in the same footprint but with crown molding, white picket tile backsplash and bright laminate countertops in the color Calacatta Marble in the satin touch finish. Giving this once dark and worn out kitchen a bright and airy feel, that will stand the test of time. We went with black hardware, faucet and finishes on our oven range, this provides a stark contrast to the white and really helps the kitchen to pop! I carried the black over into the selection of new barstools, as well as a gingham rug and light fixtures. What I love about this aspect is that all of these things are easily changeable, if I decide I want to change out the colors its fairly easy to do so by swapping hardware and rug styles. The permanent aspects of this space are neutral and will go with whatever we pick out.
I partnered with Cabinets Express on the cabinetry in this space, they gave me a discount in exchange for some content. We worked with them on our last home, when we did a full kitchen renovation there as well. We loved the white shaker style cabinets so much that we reordered them again for this kitchen. They have soft close, are all wood and just look SO NICE! We worked with a kitchen designer that helped us select cabinets, drawers and sizes that would work with our space. Once again we were very impressed with the service and timelines of our order. We had our cabinets in 3 weeks, we opted to have them built and then delivered. Two things we did permanently remove from this space? Upper cabinetry on either side of the window, our eventual plan is to do floating shelves there. We felt that the cabinets really closed in the window and in an effort to open up the space a bit we opted to leave them out. We don’t miss the storage because we made up for it in other spaces in the kitchen. We also permanently removed a microwave from our kitchen, thats right we do not own a microwave. We did not have one in our last home and were happy to go back to a life of heating things up with our oven! Leaving out the microwave made space for a beautiful hood vent that is such a statement.
I am going to link as much as I can in this post, our sink, faucet, lights and accessories. As well as kitchen accessories seen here. I curated this kitchen with a vision for a bright and transitional space, I am so pleased with the result and want to be sure to pass on the exact pieces I purchased to create this space.
