The warm weather has been amazing lately and with Memorial Day behind us its time to officially wear summer outfits 24/7! Now is the time to stash those leggings, and pull out the breezy, lightweight and comfortable fabrics of summer. The best fabrics for summer dressing are breathable and flow around the body. The cotton jumpsuit I am wearing in this blog post was gifted to me by Lane Bryant**its sold out.
Have you noticed the blog looking a little different? I did a major redesign, read all about it HERE.
Which fabrics are best?
- Cotton
- Chambray
- Rayon
- Linen
- Blended Fabrics
For the purpose of todays post I want to talk specifically about cotton, linen and rayon. As these are most often found in plus size “summer” fabrics.
Cotton
Cotton is a popular natural fiber fabric that is known for its breathable qualities. Because this fabric is so breathable its easy to wear because the heat moves freely through the fabric. Known best for its casual qualities, cotton tees are a mainstay in summer dressing.
Linen
Linen is KNOWN for its cooling abilities, this natural fiber fabric is made from the flax plant. Linen is one of the oldest textiles in the world, and its popular for a reason. This fabric is MADE for the heat, the natural fiber combined with the open weave of the fabric make it the perfect choice for the hottest of days.
Rayon
The only man made fabric in the bunch. Rayon is made from cellulose, and is an amazing imitator. This fabric can be made to feel like, silk, wool, cotton, or linen. This fabric is at its best in DRY heat, because its not a natural fiber it will not wick away moisture(like sweat). Rayon is a thinner thread and is at its best in the form of light drape style clothing.
