Happy Monday! Today on the blog I am sharing a review of the Smile Brilliant teeth whitening system. A while ago Smile Brilliant reached out to me and wanted to collab, being a red wine, soda, coffee, tea drinker I enthusiastically agreed!!
A couple of disclaimers before we dig in. I AM NOT A DENTIST. This review is purely MY OPINION ABOUT MY TEETH.
Things that make this review different from other teeth whitening system reviews, one of my top front teeth is a crown, I fell when I was in 2nd grade and broke one of my front teeth on the playground. I had a temporary tooth until I was 18 and then I had a permanent crown put in. If you have a crown then you already know that they do not whiten, its porcelain and specifically made to match the rest of your teeth. Which is fascinating to me because I got my crown when I was 18, and now I am 30. This basically means, I have a replica of my 18 year old teeth sitting front and center in my mouth and I have had the “pleasure” of watching the rest of my teeth age *deep sigh* *sarcasm* lol. By age I mean slowly become stained from years of drinking dark liquids.
So in this review I am sharing how I went about whitening my teeth to match my crown. Which is GREAT if you have a crown too!! Let’s get into it.

How it works
Head to smilebrilliant.com and select the system that will work best for you. They have options for sensitive teeth etc…
Then wait.
Then open up this beautiful box! Smile Brilliant equips you with everything you need to create your own impressions(including back up puddy). In your box you are going to receive the whitening gel, desensitizing gel and the trays and puddy needed to create the impressions. All of this AND lots of information and step by step instructions on how to create the impressions the lab needs to make your trays.
After you have made your impressions you ship them off to the lab, everything is already set up postage wise. Just walk them out to the mailbox and put the flag up!
How it works continued…
Once you get your trays back(in a nifty little case). You can start whitening!
This is where it started to get tricky for me. I realized that I couldn’t follow the provided instructions because of my crown. Smile Brilliant recommends whitening every other day for 5 days. This works fantastic for peeps with no crown but for me I knew that I could possibly over whiten my teeth and that would be a mess. So I opted to whiten my teeth every 3rd day.
I found the best amount of time for me to whiten was 30 minutes of the whitening gel, and then 30 minutes of the desensitizing gel. This helped reduce the tooth sensitivity i initially experienced. I love that this type of whitening system can be truly customized to my specific teeth, I have used over the over the counter whitening strips in the past and found them to not work as effectively.
If you have whitened your teeth with over the counter strips before then you know its common to feel a “stabbing” pain in your teeth midway through your whitening time. THAT DID NOT HAPPEN FOR ME WITH SMILE BRILLIANT! The trays and gel were mild, had no taste and were easier to use because of the specific impressions and customization.
I know that my whitening experience is different than a person with “normal” teeth. Using Smile Brilliant reduced the stains on my teeth, helped me to match up the color of my teeth to my crown.
