Happy Friday! Today on the blog I am sharing a peek into my baby boys nursery! Keith and I have been hard at work over the past months getting our sons nursery together, its been fun to create a space for our boy in our home. When we first found out we were pregnant I knew that we would be turning our guest room into the baby room, I wanted the space to feel like us and go with the decor theme we already have throughout our home. Keith and I are people that love old historic homes, this is our second “historic” home and living in this type of house always comes with a few quirks. Our home would be classified as a bungalow, the upstairs has pitched ceilings and lots of skylights. Because the house was originally built in 1875 the upstairs was added in later years, like most historic homes the bedrooms are SMALL, our room is small and so are the other two rooms upstairs. Baby Adams room is small which gave us certain restrictions in terms of furniture and styling.
The Furniture…
I picked out the crib months before I was even pregnant, I happened upon it while shopping at West Elm one day and fell in love with the midcentury modern styling and wood stain. The minimalist styling is perfect for the small bedroom size and really pops off the dark grey statement wall we added to the room.

Similar to how I like to style my outfits, I love styling high end and affordable pieces together in the same space. After doing tons of research on MUCH more expensive rocking chairs I ended up ordering one from Wayfair at a fraction of the cost! Again I was specifically shopping for a piece that was compact and modern looking, that way I would have space in the room to move about but still be able to rock and enjoy our little guy!
The Dresser we went with is now sold out(I will update if comes back in stock), I wanted to use a dresser that would work as a changing table/dresser and then as just a dresser in a few years. I have added a link to the one we almost went with that is still in stock and available. My husband made a changing table topper for the dresser that you can remove in later years.

The Decor…
I really wanted the babies room to feel like the rest of our house, we have mostly black and white photos on the walls, and lots of plants. It was really important to me that this room feel like our home but also a little boys space, after lots of internet searching Keith and I landed on a couple of animal illustrations that we think are funny and modern. My husband is an avid outdoorsman and hunter, I wanted to embrace that with our boys room but also stay true to the modern vibe of our home decor. I scooped up these illustrations on Amazon for 75.00 each, there were TONS of different animals but we really like the Whitetail Deer and Bear.

I searched and SEARCHED for the perfect rug for baby Adams room, and after lots of looking I landed on a rust/tangerine area rug, I wanted the rug to be a focal point in the room and have lots of color. My plan is for this rug to last us a few years with the different colors in the pattern we have lots of design room. This specific rug is from AllModern.com and is VERY THIN. I ordered an extra thick rug pad and rug tape to thicken up and hold everything in place. Its my goal to have this be a play space for our boy and having a soft place for him to sit and play is essential!!

When Keith and I found out we were having a boy it occurred to me that I do not really know much about little boys! What I do know is how men should treat the people around them, as a woman raising a boy I know that I want my son to be empathetic, caring and walk this world with a good heart. I had seen the saying “Boys will be good humans” a few different places and found it to fit my visions of our little boy perfectly.
I had been on the hunt for a sign for our boys room with this saying for sometime, while at a local “New Moms” event I met Kendra from lil” HOMESTEAD CO. I loved the design of her signs, after chatting with her about her Etsy business I commissioned this custom sign from her! She generously gifted me this sign and its PERFECT for over our boys changing table! Its something I will look at while rocking and nursing him and a saying that really embodies the type of person I want to bring into this world! The rustic framing is a perfect blend with the eclectic mix of wood we have through out or home! lil HOMESTEAD CO. has so many designs that you can purchase AND she can custom make so many styles!
Part of my nesting process while preparing for baby Adams was creating, I really wanted to make something myself for his room. I attended a tapestry class last year and LOVED it, so I pulled out my old loom and set to work creating a wall hanging just for his room, I mixed in the colors of his room and spent the days when I was feeling the yuckiest creating this special piece for my little guy.
Another part of the babies decor that was really important to me was a space for books, I am a former teacher and know how important reading to your baby is. I wanted to have books readily available for us to grab from so we can read to our boy, I added a touch of modern to the space by using these affordable acrylic bookshelves, and my plan is to eventually have them go all the way to the floor so our boy can access his favorite books in his toddler and kid years.

Why shouldn’t the nursery be a place where adults would want to spend time, too? This looks restful and lovely for both parent and child! 🙂
